How-to: Custom Gauge Panel in Dash

This is a pretty neat modification where you can put 2 1/16th" gauges in your dash, plus its easier to read. Rubber mudflaps work pretty well, make sure they are the right thickness. You will need a Truck mud flap which can be found at pepboys for 9 bucks. Or you can use a Mudflap with TAZ on it from Autozone.


Here you can see the mud flap and my cutting surface. Use a big knife and a metal square to cut it to the desired shape, but using a heavy razor blade would have been easier. The trick is to cut it just slightly bigger than the hole in the dash. THis makes it so it will snap into place. Once you have cut your square out, remove the panel right below the stereo. (It just snaps out).







Test fit your new piece of rubber. If it doesn't snap in tight, then carefully shave the sides till it fits tightly.





Now that its the right size it is time to make the holes. I used 2 1/16" gauges, so to make sure they are held in place snugly, I used a 2in hole saw that attaches to a drill and drilled the holes.





Make sure to measure them out the best you can so you don't have crooked gauges. Snap it in place and press one of your gauges in place to make sure it will hold tight.
