after the rim is off, take a good look at it. if there's lots of dirt like mine, then you definetly need to clean it (duh!!)

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z85/neptune_51/My%20Stuff/a0a7.jpg
as you can see mine are pretty bad

next you need to clean out the entire thing. use a cloth and the hose to get most of the visible dirt
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...Stuff/4635.jpg

after cleaning the rim, start sanding with the 600 grit. go through the entire thing so that it's super smooth
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...Stuff/8352.jpg
you can sorta see the places where i sanded in the picture...

after sanding, use the white gas to clean it again. just pour a little on a clean rag and wipe it into the rim. this SUPER cleans it. ( this step is optional, but since the rims are very visible, you want them to be super nice when your done. using the gas just helps clean it up that little extra bit)

anywho...

start masking the area around the tire with tape and paper. you can see from the picture that i got kinda creative. but its all up to you on how it gets done.

just make sure you cover the tire. nothing worse than a colored tire

now you start the fun part.....

begin the priming.

i did about three coats.

with the primer, i let it sit for about an hour between each coat.

and next is the painting stage
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z85/neptune_51/My%20Stuff/15c4.jpg
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...Stuff/fca7.jpg

and this is the bolt cover
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...Stuff/d71f.jpg

for this part, try about 3-4 coats with an hour to dry between each.

now after letting the paint dry for about 2 hrs, begin on the clearcoat. go for about 3-4 coats, allowing for 10-15 mins to dry on each.

i let each rim sit for about a day before reinstalling on the car.

repeat these steps on the other 3 wheels and your set to go.

here are some finished pics

sorry i can't get any better finished shots... our garage door is busted and i can't get the car out.

hopefully my write-up has helped you.... and someone move this into the 2G projects area or somethin...
