So, FD's DO fit on 4WS cars...sweet

Well hey everyone, I hardly ever post here anymore, but I'm still livin' the dream and drivin the 6. lol

Anyway, I had some spare black FD's layin' around and a set of Bridgestone RE750 tires sized 245/45zr16, so I decided to just make it happen. I measured previously and found that a 20mm spacer would do the trick, so I ordered some from *whispers* ebay *whispers* and voila they did just the trick!

Here's a before shot.

Looks cool and everything, but just not enough. So... here's what it looks like now.

So yeah, there it is. Looks better, has traction, and was free! Can't beat that.

NExt on the project list I got another front bumper so I don't have a stupid ugly dumb hole in the front bumper anymore, and I got a newer style 1g grill. Once I get the hood repainted and get that all on, I think it will actually look pretty decent.

Until then, it's still been a reliable daily driven car, and it doesn't owe me a thing.

20mm spacers? Guessing theyre bolt on adapters? The overall offset should be +30mm offset then?
I was worried about getting FD's because of the offset and tire sizes. My 6 is pretty low and for some reason the 6 doesnt like low offset wheels. Mine right now are only 16x6.5in +40mm on 225/45/16's. I rub a lot. When I plug in my timer box the rear wheels rub on the inner wells. Rubbing doesnt really bother me. I just dont want to mess up my fenders.

I was just kinda skeptical about FD's and their stupid high offset factory. I was just going to do a simple 10mm spacer on 225/40/16's for a slight stretched look.

They look great. Might be a little too low of offset for my drop.

When I lower this thing more, I'm definitely going to have to do something. Rolling the fenders would be the easiest, but I may just go some chopping and make a real wide arch, or just cut the fender shorter, and do an over-fender flare. Widebody would look sweetest with a wide tire like that, but it would obviously be the most work too.

Ehhh, no wide body. Negative camber would help the best. Not a lot, just enough to clear the fender lips a tad.

Ehh, negative camber bothers me on FWD cars, espescially on street cars. Like..."hey, what's up, I don't have traction and I like to wear my tires out."

I have 225/50/16's on my 1g and once spaced 3 washers thick so they'd stop rubbing the OE struts, the rear tires hit the fender. This being said, your Bridgestones must be a super narrow 245 or my Goodyears must be a super wide 225.

Well, I work at a tire shop and I've never known either make for being excessive one way or another, but I know that there certainly ARE some tires like that: BFG's immediately come to mind.

Also, since the ratios are slightly different, that could have something to do with it. Was yours a 4ws car as well?

My car is not 4ws.

Just strikes me as odd that the added turning in the rear would let you fit a wider tire than mine with less travel. I don't know what the differences are though to the hub assembly. Maybe your struts are extra thin at the bottom so you can sneak it in behind the fender lip.

From what i remember though, Nevin does not have the 4ws hooke dup in his car. So the same tires will fit from the 2ws models.

I doubt those tires would work with the 4ws working. When turning they would hit the strut perch. I know my 205's on 2g 5stars BARELY fit when the rear tires are turned. And with the spacers, Id be more worried about the strength of the wheel studs (If he doesnt have extended ones) when turning also.

Yeah, the 4ws is de-activated fo sho. A line in the back kept splitting, and then we put on a big turbo and 3" DP and decided to just ditch the P/S altogether. So, it technically IS a 4ws car, but it may as well not be. Just the same, I was surprised that a 245 physically fit in the wheelwell.

Also, I got a set of those spacers that have studs in them, offset between the holes for the existing studs... Like the KICS style ones. Seem to work well!

Yeah I just swapped in the big T3 and 2.5" turbo-back exhaust from my old car and ended up having to ditch the PS also. Everything is there minus the lines that go to the pump.. and the pump of course. When I have the cash though Im definitely going to go get a new downpipe made that fits witht he 4ws...

Yeah, i mean I can appreciate how cool the 4ws is and all, and maybe someday I'll make it work again, but as of now, its not worth the hassle to me. And don't pay to make that new DP, do it yourself! Wooo!!

EH, Id rather pay a shop to do it... cut, weld, cut weld, re-cut what you just welded, fix everything... by the end Id have used up $40 in metal blades and a ton in wire feed...

They can get paid to do it. Ill be less stressed out and be out barely any mor emoney than if I did it myself
