FE 2.0ltr SOHC idle problems

Hi All,

I have a Mazda 929 HB-ES coupe with the SOHC FE 2.0litre in it. I've just fully rebuilt the 2.0litre and bolted a 12A HT-18S turbo to it.

I'm having idling issues. I can't seem to get it to idle below 2grand. It has the crappy centre point injection set up...

Any ideas or does anyone have a link to a workshop manual for this engine?

Any help would be appretiated.

Mitch

P.S. I've tried searching on here but haven't come up with much!

where are you located? just out of general interest...

and the CFI isnt much fun to play with, I have one in my GC 626 turbo...
As far as WSMs there isnt much on this site about it....could be an air flow meter issue...a common prob, or you have an air leak after the AFM somehwere...there is a "thermo wax" idle increaser that lifts the idle when cold.. they can fail...I dont have any details at hand, plus I cant remember any more..
But if your serious about getting more power, maybe its time to look at a mega squirt as the factory setup is quite difficult to tune to get any serious power

Hey Cheif,

I'm in Perth mate.

Wasn't interested in extracting too much power out of this thing, just want it to be a reliable runner. I have my 13bt for the fun days...

Need to find a manual for this ruddy thing..

I have the WSM for the 86 Tx5 turbo...which had enough info to get me by....I'll see if I can post up some of it...but thats going to take a bit of time once I get in fron the of the scanner etc.....

You could try bookworks in punchbowl NSW, they do factory WSM reprints.....thats where I got mine from originally...

In the mean time I'll have a read of said manual and see if the symptom you mention jogs my memory at all on what it could be.

It's all good.

I now have myself a genuine Mazda 929 Workshop Manual and have been reading it intently.

When I get home from work (I work away), I will begin my fault finding.

P.S. I swapped the Thermo Wax out for another one I had and it made no difference...

All fixed now, the car is finished now and it is all rego'd and driving...

It is fitted with the standard Mazda Turbo manifold on the inlet and the standard exhaust manifold which has an adapter to fit the 12A turbo....

Pic below....

Oh, by the way the problem I was having was due to the vacuum lines being incorrectly hooked up.... It's amazing what happens when things are in their correct place!
