85 626 - need info

I'm looking at purchasing a 1985 626. The ad says that it's rwd, but from what I have read they are fwd. Can someone help? Also, did the 85 626 share a standard transmission with any other model? Thanks.

I think that means what other models had the same transmission......

Answer : its a Mazda G series box (if its a manual Tx) and yes its FWD.

It shares alot of similarities with other G series boxes in the GD 626 and later and various 323 models......

However....while the internals might be very much the same, the mounting points on the case is where the variations are at. this pretty much restricts you to using a whole transmission from the 83-87 model. But you can use internal parts from the others.

BTW its too bad you guys in US and Canada got those headlights...they look crook....the euro & jspec and aus spec ones look way better.

Yeah that is also a pic of an 85-86 model here, but our 83-84 models had the same lights only the grille was different. (on the coupe and hatch models, the sedan like mine is, has a short nose front with different lights again)

I think the one piece lights look much better than the 2x sealed beam arrangement of the North American spec cars
