I was a fairly full-on adolescent smoker for a couple of years (aaah those were the days when you could by PJ 15s made just for schoolgirls to slip neatly into the pockets of their school dresses!), quit when I was 16. Glad I got it out of the way when I was young.
For me, being the smoker and being around a smoker were always two very different things. These days, I don't
really like being around smokers, mainly because I don't like the smell in my hair and smoke always finds the ex-smoker first, and then the non-smoker. I'd rather not be around it, but hey - there's compromise in everything.
There is still something about blowing the smoke yourself that is meditative (despite physiological effects to the contrary). These days I just go stand in cold air when I'm warm and make breath condensation rings

All the fun, and only the risk of pneumonia! I like those odds...
