like [shizzle]...plain and simple
have them either firing straight towards your back (so forward), and get some dynomat. |

well get some dynomat anyways...lol
at least make the ports, if you're having a ported box, vent towards the front. |

I've tried firing into the cabin, firing to the rear, and firing straight up. Towards the rear seems to proiduce the best sound quality in my opinion. I have no dynomat either, and my trunk does not rattle. The mechanics for the trunk lock are the rattling culprit. Just remove 'em, and shave the hole.

all things being equal, it's unidirectional, but it echoes and bounces off of solid objects. that's why bass seems deeper and louder when you face the cone at the back of the trunk, as you would facing the front of the car. hence, why most home stereo's have the sub firing down since it will be reflected off of the floor

I have my box custom made facing the rear at about a 30 degree angle and it sounds the best compared to when I tried it facing my back or straight up as poppy said. My truck does not rattle too much and I do not have any Dynomat as of now. The only thing that rattles is the stupid speaker grill becasue the plastic things that the speaker grill clips snap into are busted. Anyone know the best way to repair it with? I tried apoxy and that worked alright for a while, but it is really annoying. I'm hoping when I Dynomat my trunk that some rattling will be eliminated. Tell me what you guys think.

As far as your speaker covers in the back rattling...try wrapping them with electric tape or some duct tape (all around the inside plastic circular part of the speaker cover)...that should dampen the sound of the rattling...thats what i wound up doing...i cant even notice the rattle any more.
Before you spend all the money on Dynomat, try to stop the speaker covers from rattling...you'll notice a significant difference, at least i did. Good Luck |

why not aim them down then if like you said it bounces off of solid objects? by doing so it would allow you to still use your trunk since you could put things all the way up to the box without risk of damaging the cone..
