tough a nails they are.

good old low compression cast iron block motors can keep on going.

if it wasn't for the alloy head you'd never worry about it overheating

hard to say...depending on how bad the headgasket was, but it might have survived better with the radiator cap off to relieve the pressure in the cooling system and decrease the coolant loss.

I drove one of my Gc's all the way from newcastle to sydney with a blown head gasket...

I took the radiator cap off and turned the heater on flat out and wound the windows down.
It was July tho...and it wasnt a bad gasket blow.

I only stopped twice to add water....I had two 4 litre bottles in the boot.

That F2 head would be like cheese now after being overheated like that

Yeah its too bad that NSXR proved that the 4WD system cant take much torque....

How good would it be to have wagon with 4WD and a turbo FE3...! that'd give a few v8 commodores a bit of a fright!

A 300whp front wheel drive mx6 is enough to scare off a 307kw VE Clubby.

ok guys. I think a new record has been set (locally at least). Engine, box, shafts, hubs and linkages removed in 4 hours

Thought I'd take a picture of the innards of a GV airbag steering wheel. Looks like fun hey??

I was unaware that on our trip home I had 2 notorious stow aways on board.... Chris and Peter. They were hiding under the centre console!

So the old and busted F2 was the straw that broke the chains back. Check this link out. Aw Snap!

Just a glimpse of things to come.

Must have been a dodgy link in the chain....the only time I have ever dropped a motor, it was due to an S link opening up...now i only use D-bolts.

Thankfully we didnt do any damage to the engine as there was a pile of sand under the car, and it absorbed the impact nicely, didnt even dent the sump!

was a barrel of laughs cleaning off the sand that had stuck to the oily bits..

but the wagon is other wise looking good tho...

one thing I've noticed after removing the outboard fan to fit an intercooler...is that the car struggles a bit with temps in traffic, and the air con doesnt work as well at idle speed.

Not a massive show stopper, i've been putting up with it for years, but on hot days stuck in traffic it pisses me off, and I keep thinking of ways to fit the second fan back in...

The main issue I find is that the air con system was designed for R12 refrigerant which was a more efficient gas...mine was converted over to R134a a long time ago, when you look at all the R134a cars, the only real difference apart from rubber seals and compressor oil is that the condensers all have a greater effective area.
I have been looking at squeezing in one out of a newer car as soon as I can find on thats the right size with the pipe work in the right spot...

bit off track tho..

so is thing getting a turbo FE3 or F2T ?

PS love the row of speakers magnetically stuck to tside of the shed..I used to do that too

You know that shot of the selector cables reminds me of two things that maybe of interest well one thing

What it reminded me of was

I still have hole i nthe fire was sort of filled with A extra ECU

But the 2nd thing - after seeing GTXWGN- ( on the laser boardS) with his cable selected toyota box

and looking as a 3 shaft MPS box makes me thing making one fit - easy enough and working it not that hard either as the holes are there.
also make fitting EVo box possible too

It has one advantage iwth an auto cheif tool - it's got mid sized auto fan on it bigger then the turbo one smaller then turbo auto - just needs the dual core radiator

Yeah, I use the turbo auto fan too....I know its the largest one available...but It still isnt enough.....

What type of toyota box was used ? Yeah the MPS box...you might be lucky it might have a closer bell pattern thanks to being made by the same manufacturer.....
Wonder how much $$$ an MPS box would be worth...reckon about 6-8k!

I am still looking into the GM F35...its only for an FWd application tho...one of my mates who is big on the opel forums is about to do an L61 motor build...I am going to run a template of his bell pattern and take some other measurements...
I've heard of the F28 being fitted, so it possible, just got no details.

I am impressed also Rod by the MR2/CelicaGT gearbox. Not to hard to get it in the car. In comparison, it does make the Mazda box look quite weak.

Here is the link to explain more. Fordlaser.com :: View topic - GTXWGN progress thread
