engine stalling..

hey guys.. a while ago as i would pull up to a red light and slow down the car would just stall this happened about 2 or 3 times.. i thought it was just bad gas or sometime.. and didn't give it much thought... but recently the past 3 days as I drive the car at around 80km/h the car stalls... and then if i start it.. it just starts back up.. and once it wouldn't start right away but after 30 secs it started up just again... and then it drives fine.. so on a 50min trip it might stall after about 15-20 mins and be fine for the rest of the trip..

so far i've done a fuel pressure test with Kevin's help.. didn't see any problems there and yesterday i changed the distributor cap and rotor.. still stalling...

any of you guys had an issue like this before ??? or know anyway to pinpoint the problem ?

I've never had an issue like that, really weird...try re-posting this in the 2G General Section, more likely to get more info/responses there.

Sounds like the disty is failing. You should swap one of Kevin's old ones in if it's the same year and see if the issue persists.

Curses! I didn't phone you back, did I? My bad.

Okay, I found two, and since one looks very odd, I'm going to guess that to be the KLZE one, so the other should be my old working one. I'll be around Wednesday evening after 4:00 if you wanted to stop by, then we could swap the disty real quick, and I can whip out the timing light and we can make sure that its still set right.

If that doesn't work, give me a call and we'll figure out a time.

Have you checked the codes again? Here's hoping a code stuck this time, hopefully you can get it checked before the computer resets itself.

PS:> That's exactly why I keep that wire under the hood there for jumping the diagnostic box; when I see a code come up like that, I just pull off to a parking lot immediately and check my codes.

Well, I guess the good news is that now we know what your CEL code was for. But I'm supposing the bad news is likely that replacing an O2 sensor didnt' stop the stalling. :P Seems pretty unlikely to be the root cause. Keep us posted!

Ok so.. tried the different ecu in the car and same thing's happening... then checked to see if there was a spark after stalling but it would just start back up... after numerous tries we finally got under the hood quickly and there was no spark at all..
