I sure hope some out there in MX6/626 land has an automatic trans for turbo car that is feeling unwanted, because I WANT one to replace my broken trans. It would ship to Watsonville, CA 95076.
Thanks for reading.

A buddy of mine has a 89 MX-6 2.2 non turbo; last week he was headed to work and before he even left his driveway his car just died. He replaced the timing belt cause it jumped time but now it will purr like a kitten for about 10 15 minutes until it reaches operating temp then it proceeds to die as if he had turned the key off. Also the fuel filter was replaced. Sometimes it will start right up afterwards and sometimes it takes nearly the entire charge of the batt before it will start. When given throttle slowly it will wind up no problem but when you go WOT it's doggy and acts like it will die then catches up. He took the air box off and did the same thing with the WOT and it had no problems. Could it be the air flow sensor? or something of that nature? It won't run long enough at operating temp to get a timing light on it.

We have been pickin brains to figure this thing out but to no avail. If anyone has had similar problems or know what the hell it's doing please post up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading this.
Mike

it appears my muffler has rotted through and now makes a rattling noise when it's idling. i've been doing research on new mufflers and i have a few questions to ask for those who've had work/replacement on their mufflers.

for starters, can i replace my muffler with any "universal" muffler? i've been looking at some brands like HKS, GReddy, Apexi, Borla, Magnaflow, etc, and i've seen that some of them don't list that their mufflers work on a 1st gen turbo'd mx6. but then i see that they're bolt-on which i'm assuming its like my dirtbike in which the muffler is bolt-on as long as it's the same width. is that how a car's muffler works or a similar manner? i wouldn't mind paying up to $100 for a new muffler if this is the case since i would be installing it myself...

anywho...much thanks to those who can answer my noobie questions :)

Hey all,

I finally got my new tranny installed last night, was tuff to get it in but I did it and it was a good feeling of relief, also installed fidanza flywheel + southbend stage 2 tz clutch+ pressure plate. Put mostly everything back together except for the crossmember and engine cradle.

Two things i've noticed, first my shift stick doesn't seem to be centered anymore when im in neutral, its actualy 2/3rd's of the the way down when in neutral so when I try to shift into second, fourth and reverse I hit the plastic interior surrounding the shift stick, Is there some sort of adjustment for this?

Second, after putting the slave cylinder back on I went to go press the clutch pedal and It was all the way to the floor, so I grabbed it with my hand and started to pump it and now im getting some pressure but only at the halfway point of pressing the pedal, the first half there is no pressure at all, does this make sense? would I have to adjust my clutch pedal even though I didn't mess with it before this happened or do I need to bleed my slave cylinder for some odd reason? I didnt press the clutch while the slave cylinder was taken off the tranny

Maybe since I changed the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate the release bearing needs to travel further so there is no feeling of pressure in the clutch pedal for the first half, if this was the case what would I need to do to fix that?

Any help is greatly appeciated! I was to get my car back on the road!!! :)

Recently I've noticed that about 1 in 5 times my car takes longer to start than normal. Similiar to the sound a car will make when its incredibly cold out. Also, a couple of times the past few days it has started normally, but there will be a lag between when the car 'starts' and when the car actually starts making noise. Unsure if that's a correct diagnostic but this happens in a split second, but I have noticed it to be off. *just to clarify, I turn key, car starts, then lag, and I hear the muffler.*
