Top end noise

Hi all

I seem to have developed an irregular loud tapping noise coming from the rear bank top side.

It has steadily gotten worse over the last 2 days and today I've noticed the oil light coming on in the dash at idle revs sometimes. There's nothing wrong with the oil level - although I do have a very slow leak from the rockers (soon to be fixed).

It sounds just like something is loose. You can't hear during normal idle revs, more like 1500+ and not constant - irregular.

Does anyone know what this is? Could it be a loose HLA or something?

I've made an audio .wav file of the noise.

Recording.wav - 0.37MB (http://www.zshare.net/audio/6828287168902b72/)

Which colour coolent - Blue, green or orange?

I meant coolant

I use green

Which do you use and which is best. also are any of them alcohol or methanol based. (read below statement for why i asked)

Coolant (5L) which must be suitable for aluminium alloy engines/radiators/cores in not being alcohol or methanol based.
welcome to Probe - MX6 - Maintenance section (http://www.probe-mx6.com/maint.html#coolant)

Oil and filter change , advice required .

I've decided due to my current money situation ( or lack of :tdown:) to do an oil and filter change myself on my 2.5 6 . Although this is probably very basic to anyone vaguely mechanicaly minded i've never done it before . I'll get the oil change kit from probestore and i presume it goes as follows -
1 - pour -in the flush and run the engine a bit (10 minutes ?
2 - undo the sump -nut and let the oil drain out
3 - change the oil filter
4 - repace sump nut using new washer
5 - pour-in lifter treatment and then the oil

Is that about it ? how difficult is it to change the oil filter ? i don't even know where its located and does it just unscrew by hand ? etc

Any advice would be helpful
Cheers , Matt .

Hi all

I am desperate to get a CAT for my '92. It failed with a de-cat on, I stupidly thought 92 were exempt from test!

I would consider even "borrowing" one, or if someone has a used one, that they know is good, please PM me and I will give you Mobi number.

Thanks

Hi all

I'm in the market for a new CD car stereo system. At the moment I have a 5yr old JVC which jumps and is pretty poor.

I have a budget of £200 and would like the following:
* USB option
* MP3 player
* Bluetooth "parrot"

Can anyone recommend a good brand name, model?

Cheers

cheapest place for replacement centre and rear sections of exhaust system ?

The centre and rear sections of my exhausts have given out and are blowing and need replacing.

Almost had a heart attack when I was quote £300 for a replacement centre/rear exhaust section at Protyre.

Probestore seem to do both these parts for £110 combined which is more sensible. But does anyone know of anywhere cheaper, or does anyone have these parts for sale?

Would also be interested in any recommendations people might have for a cheap fitter in the Portsmouth/Hampshire area.

I'm not after a performance exhaust but would consider stainless steel if one came along at the right price.

Has your electric ariel failed?

My electric Ariel motor failed. I have discovered that the Xedos 6 uses more or less the same one. I managed to get hold of one. The only difference is the fixing plate and the mast holder. I did change those to parts from the old one , however the mast holder is too long on the 6 version, so all you have to do to make it work is; change the bottom fixing plate and drill a new hole for the fixing plate bolt. Plug it in and off you go perfect........

Price of a reconditioned KL-ZE?

Hi peeps,

How much should I expect to pay (in pounds sterling) for a reconditioned KL-ZE?

Once I've got one, I read that it's going to be "fine" on the stock ECU - is that right?

If I buy a Probinator chip, presumably I just need to unscrew the lid from the top of the ECU and replace the EEPROM?

Thanks :)
