quad throttle bodies on an FE-DOHC...

lately ive been thinking about making an inletmanifold with motorbike throttle bodies atached to it.
i was wondering what u guys input is to this and if it would be worthwhile and what type u would suggest.
for the manifold i was thinking about modifying an existing one or having one made from a flange with runners atached to it which would suit the TB's
ive been searching Ebay for a few days now and i come across lots of TB's from Honda CBR 600 motorbikes and lots of others.
they seem to sell for quite cheap so thats makes it even more interesting to try and experiment with.
heres some pictures taken from Ebay.

2003-04 Honda CBR 600 RR

2003 Yamaha R1

GSXR 600 05

GSXR 750

HAYABUSA 2004

YZF R6

SUZUKI GSXR 1000

and so the list goes on and on...
now my question is .. theres this dutch guy here in Holland who made these things to his Peugeot 205 with MI16 engine. which i think is also 2.0litre just like an FE3.
any comments on having this idea come true..
plan is to make this work on the "to-build" stroker FE3 which im also working on.
thanks.

Mi16 engine (Originally from the 405 but people use it for swap in 205 - 309 - 306) came in 2 displacements 1.9L (No Cat) and 2.0L (Cat).
1.9L 160HP and 2.0L 155HP. Just for info, Peugeot had a Turbocharged version of the Mi16 called T16 with 2.0L 200HP /220(overboost 45 sec) HP. I love that car.

My 2cts

The fe-dohc engine reminds me of the Mi16 engine.
It is a 86 x 86 as well (2.0 version)

I like the bike throttle body idea.

Peace

Funny you should mention this and I should pop in here, dutch. I'm researching doing ITB's on my VW right now. It is a regular practice when going all motor. I'm no longer in the MX-6 "scene" so I can't offer you any technical advice, but from what I know about doing it on VW's, it isn't cheap. It is much more cost efficient to go turbo, if you're only looking to go fast.... if you're looking for balance and to keep your motor NA, you've got the right idea. Also, one of the coolest things about them, is it sounds like all hell is breaking loose when you open up ITB's.

several things to say:

ms website has quite a bit of info on em(mega post style)

the size needs to be bigger than you may think

you'll need bigger injectors, so choose one with an upgrade path

use longish trumpets, the length of just the throttles is not going to be enough to resonate correctly. you aint gunna wanna go higher than 8k on the f2 crank without flash rods and pistons, so the tuned length will still be longish.

we took the intake tract off of my girls levin one day, and she really wasnt expecting the sound, it was louder than her little brothers free flow muffler :-) a beautiful sound. probably slower than leaving the tract on for a variety of reasons, but good fun. on her engine the trumpets are bent to fit between the firewall and engine, they go down about 6", and are made of rubber. the whole assembly is wrapped in a sheet steel "plenum" of sorts, very deep, and quite thin. a system like that is good because each cylinder doesnt have to suck through a non perfect filter in pulses, and the column of air coming down the pipe carries inertia and helps cylinder filling, also you can still have CAI.

good luck, share your photos.

fred.

Yes, seperate throttle bodies is the way to go... most definitely.

And "longish" intake tubes.

I'm not sure how, but spend alot of time deciding the length of the tubes, it will be critical for your overal performance.

mines going into my ford courier (b2000) in stock 148ps trim for now. when the dollars roll in i'll put a twin screw supercharger in it at 15psi, and pull out 250 - 300ps or so... that should make the 1600kg hydraulic tipper move ok :-)

no itbs for me at the moment, although i reckon a 2.4l itb fe3 with 260deg cams with 11mm lift would shift an mx5 quite nicely.

Hey guys! A friend of mine pointed me to this post. He's currently in the field training (military), but he wanted me to contribute to this thread for him.
His car is a '90 Ford Probe GL. About 4 years ago we swapped in a FE3 motor w/ 5 speed tranny, and shortly after that we installed a custom set of quad throttle bodies.
It was a fairly straight forward operation. We used a set of TWM throttle bodies made for a 1.8L Mazda Miata (unsure of the engine code), with a set of 550cc fuel injectors.
We hacked the flange off of the stock intake manifold leaving about 2+ inches of material on each intake runner. We matched up the runners on the stock flange with the quads, welded them into place and smoothed out the insides. We drilled and tapped holes for a vacuum source, and the stock throttle cable was easily fitted to the quads.
Because he was already running an Aeromotive AFPR, we made a block off plate for the AFPR that comes with the TWM TBs. Ok, enough talk! Here are a few pics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I don't frequent these boards at all, but I'll try to stop in and keep an eye on this post.

Is that throttle linkage assembly something that came with the ITB's or custom? Thtat's a pretty neat idea.
