FE3 steep vs FE3 flat (inlet manifolds, pics inside)

here are some images comparing two of the different manifolds that come on the fe3.

note the small passage for air on the right of the lower (steep) one. and the four large passages for air in the middle of the upper (shallow) one.

heres up the runners on the flat one. (not so good)

this is looking into the manifold from the engine, inline with the majority of the runner. note the way it rolls up and over into the tube from the head. the head part is "correct" and the rest is pointing the wrong way for optimum flow.

with the other end of the manifold centred, you can see the bump in the floor of the manifold. not ideal.

and the good one...

see how with the far end centred the bottom and top are close to parallel.

and again...

you can see how straight it is here, aswell as in the side by side pics, its pretty obvious there too. hard to take pics of though.

Now stop and think about it you sissies.

Most of the people on here have FE3s that have been fitted aftermarket. For you people WHO CARES.

What's the oilpan difference gonna cost ya? What's the cat difference gonna cost ya? What's the oil cooler difference gonna cost ya? Cams and pistons are irrelevant because most of you like turbocharging, so you should be swapping them for the appropriate items to suit your setup ANYWAY. And the intake is yet another example - big whoop! If you lose two horsepower by having a little hump BIG DEAL!

Why doesn't someone just start fabricating lightweight high flow aluminium intake manifolds anyway?

I've already started fabricating one for my friend's 4G63BT DOHC, because its factory manifold is nothing like the right shape to suit a Starion. I don't think doing one to suit FE3 would be any harder. The only tricky bit would be the VICS system, but if you're chasing big numbers you'd ditch it anyway, just like all the Toyota boys do with TVIS.
