ahh, yes, i'd forgotten about that :-) last nights welds werent very good, but, in my defence it was 2mm away from the ally head, and onto a dirty rusty coolant pipe for the heater. :-)
i'll have to make a new thread somewhere called freds red truck history thread. and link it here. thanks for the vote of confidence :-) fred. |

yep, low ratios certainly are good for burnouts :-) and i do like burnouts, but i suspect wheel spin in 5th is imminent with a 4.4 rear :-)
let us know how it feels with the high ratio. it shouldnt be anything really new though, as all the stock boosted cars are around that. s14k is 3.7 or 3.9 and the 6 speed is the other. or close to that. its done to limit rear wheel torque to about the same level as traction in first gear. the manufacturers also often limit boost in low gears to help in that regard too. cheers, fred. i would call my self a burnout finatic winning may burnout comps ect i can back up my ststement that taller gears are better for burnouts (provided you have the torque to drive them) as you can build wheel speed up allot greater. also doing burnouts in fifth is really not a good idea even with the big box as 5th is the narrowest gear and is likely to fail.

as for 5th being weak in my box, i dont think so : pairs are as follows : in the main forward part of the casing : 1st : in 34 lay 14 width 22mm 2nd : in 29 lay 20 width 22mm 3rd : in 29 lay 33 width 21mm 4th : in 22 lay 40 width 22mm + 2mm spring loaded silencer part gear. in the rear part : 5th : in 27 lay 54 (this has the best chance of being wrong, counted through the filler hole with a torch!) width looked to be 20 odd mm too, but couldnt get a vivid in let alone a rule. it certainly wasnt significantly narrower and weaker. in a conventional box, 4th out muscles all other gears by far, as its not actually a gear... leave the attitude behind... fred. |

it is a mark one cortina, also fitted with a fe dohc turbo, among many other bits like hilux lixe axle and skyline front end. and fred you need to loose the attitude! that engine is simply some bits thrown together to form a dummy engine and yes this particular dummy engine was fitted to the mark 1 cortina. i no longer have the sard 800cc injectors, they are now currently in this: http://www.amazd.co.nz/forum/viewtop...=434&start=270
thats just someones car im building, i now have bosh indy blue 1680cc methanol safe injectors (looking forward to running alcohol based fuels!) and that plenum is now in my rx7 as it doesnt fit my ute anymore since i shifted the engine back 160mm. the exhast manifold was built for my ute with a td06 but is now in the cortina (amazingly it fits like it was made for it!) the turbo is now in one peice after being pollished and is a ball bearing ta51 garrett and capable of 950hp this is the turbo i have for my ute (hmmm lag) and yes that cam cover is chromed. |
