tonight not a lot of HD work got done, but an important step was made, the CAS signal and 36-1 signal was verified on the scope and led meter. neither myself or the owner of the flash digital scope could get a sync on the 12v square wave CAS signal, so i couldnt verify syncronisation and timing between the two signals, but i'm pretty confident in my measurements...

heres the still of the 36-1 clearly showing the -1 :

and heres a flakey vid of the led light flashing :

YouTube - fe3 cas signal

and i thought i'd try out photo suckit vid upload too :

100_3916.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

tonight i will mod and refinish my ms and loom such that i can hook up the long coax from the car and try to get a cranking signal in megatune before i even have fuel. once i have it working like that, i'll start wiring the car up.

immediately after that post my internet went to hell, so i couldnt look up the docs for the ms mods, or anything else... so i went to bed. today i got my dodgy cheap FPR in the post. i'll post some pics tonight.

this morning i sent off my visa application... heres hoping its declined. (hope lindsay doesnt read this ;-) ) if its not declined, i may actually have to go through with it and leave... bugger.

tonight will be manifold first thing, then fuel system messing around, then inside for some soldering and ms mods and maybe outside for some cranking signals if i get enough done.

ok, considering i came inside from the ute at 12:20 and stopped grinding outside the neighbors windows at 11:30 and stopped welding at 12, i think i can be forgiven for not getting any fuel/ms stuff done last night.

however :

the turbo is mounted up in its final resting place.

here are the pics :

strong as nails!!

i could see the engine moving, but not the mount relaitive to it ;-)

TOTALLY sweet dude! :

here its obvious why the engine mount is a bit of an issue....

and what it allows me to do :

of course the purpose of such a rugged bracket is to stop my thin walled manifold from cracking, and to allow me to weld it up without the turbo being stolen overnight...

makes a great boarding platform too! :-)

ok, so much went on tonight, and its gotten so late, only time for a teaser :

throttles arrived as did FPR, and injectors (many thanks to Rob)

manifold has been mostly created. just need to make some loud noise (not a plan at 1am) and finish welding it on the flange.

time to hit the sack...

here are the manifold pics :

i'm yet to weld the flange fully, and add the wastegate pipe... but nearly there. will buy 3" pipe and bends and resonator today.

btw, a merge pipe like that works as advertised :-) you can blow in through one port, and feel it on your hand at the collector like your mouth was right there! also pretty cool how the protective oil came out in four little swirls next to each other. should work mint even if it is a bit crooked....

ok, tonights work :

3" exhaust parts, and 4" downpipe. 18" coby resonator/muffler, two x 1.25m of tube, and a flange set to disconnect it... possibly for a temp smoke/noise filter to get around issues...

size perspective :

nice snug fitting end

together at last (it was love at first sight)

make it a little less tight to the cab, and merge into the 3" at the same time

this weekend will be very very busy indeed.

btw, i was expecting more comments on the mani. what happened, is my audience that small?

ok, i did quite a bit today, but not many photos to show for it...

welded the bottom of some bits of the deck that i hadnt done, trimmed some bits of excess steel, drilled a bunch of holes for bolts to hold the ally panels for the fuel box, weled a few nuts on the same, added some steel to the floor of the box for mounting of the surge tank and pumps, fitted and drilled 3 from 5 of the ally panels, went shopping for bolts, steel, paint. had a couple of guests.

the ally box :

the partial roof :

from the lower rhs :

with rear in place too :

i'm trying to finish the deck asap, so i can bolt it down for good and forget about it...

need to find some rear brakes this week. for that i need to visit a commercial wrecking yard with some rulers etc and figure out a good doner.

wastegate welded into the mani, insides of mani mostly ported...by dremel, and by hand with a file!! hard work.

now to finish the mani so i can bolt it on for good and fit up the other half of the wastegate and finish the downpipe with O2 and a flange to the rest of the exhaust.

its all doable, but by god its going to be close.

pics :

till later....

got the insides of the manifold all nice n smooth cleaned it up, and zinc primed it.

i know it probably wont last, even galv wouldnt... but this paint is good to 500c, and even after welding right next to it, the zinc just melts out and adheres to the steel...

primed and painted the turbo brackets too.

bye for now.

so once again, i did quite a lot tonight, but not many pics to show. here are the few :

very very high temp silver paint for the manifold over the high temp (500c) zinc primer. i wonder how it will look after a good flog... can always strip and ceramic if i need to.

the selection of 44mm flexis for the waste gate. two are going back.

worked on the ms last night till 330am, and again now till now 1230am, and here are the external results :

so, what we have are four leds for the ignition channels, two for the injection channels, two grommets one for map tube, the other for the 4 ign outputs and two super heavy duty resistors externally mounted. the switch on the front is an expensive one i got for free along with a zillion others from the university screwed into nuclear physics equipment that was being scrapped. i also scored 3 variacs from there. wickud. the switch has a lock on it to prevent accidental switching. ms ppl will know that it is for the boot loader pins on the processor so i dont have to open the case to flash new firmware.

sooooooooo tired.

off to bed.
