any chance of grabbing an f2 piston and photographing that with the f2t one?

i guess this means fe3 pistons make really good f2 high comp pistons too. that is if you were crazy enough to do that sort of thing :-) i know one person is.

here are your pics cropped, resized and rehosted :

sorry i dont have a f2 piston laying around here.

did something useful today though

f2t piston is 28 cc.
my fe3 head is 47 cc ( might be shaved a little before i got it )
head gasket is 1mm

so with f2t pistons in a stock fe3 ( means cranck and rods) gives a 7.2 cr acording to my calculations ( feel free to check)
thats to low for me but might be a good idea if someones interested in pushing some bigboost in a fe3.

have to recalculate it with the 2.2 crank. i did calculate it but asumed that the cupper fe3 head gaskets were 1.6 mm thick but just heard they were 1.1.
so... to be continued

posted here for prosperity :-)

i might have to get hold of a set of those from someone at some stage. a budget 400hp build is possible like this :-)

if you use the stock fe3 cranck those would be nice indeed. but according to my latest calculations with a 2.2 crank and fe3 rods and shaved f2t pistons i get a 8,6 cr. so with a little porting of the head this would also be a good 400 hp cheapass mod! including 200cc extra displacement!

well, give it a try, but i dont like the chances of it surviving even a hint of bad fuel or bad tune. two things that most mx6.com members feed their engines when they shouldnt...

why?

you dont make the bottom thinner. its just the edges. the dish in the f2t piston is about 9mm deep. and you still have about 4 or 5 mm left till the first ring.

and im builing ms !

Are the ringlands under that big stress that is would be a problem? Would it only a problem under boost or also if you are going for N/A?

Sorry for my bad english.

the stress on the ring lands is directly related to torque as this is directly related to the presuere in the combustion chamber.
a f2t pushes 400 nm easely ( because of the max hp at verry low rpms deu to the long stroke) so with half the ringlands and have the torqe you can easely push 200 hp at higher rpms with half the amount of stress in the combustion chamber.
so absolutely no problem N/A and under boost??? who knows?? im gonna test it for you guys!

the normal stresses probably arent an issue, but if there is any detonation, that could be an issue. easily. obviously thats way more likely with boost.

bump

anyone came across an f2 piston to compare with an f2t piston on the same pin as above? even better, CC it?

fred.

hey fred, what is the compression on the fe3 piston ? cause im looking for a cheaper high compression piston for my lx, and if the fe3 piston is the same size, diameter, compression as the kia

10:1 in a 86mm stroke with stock dohc chamber.

kia is about 9.2 or so.

higher with longer stroke.

should be able to pick some up for cheap. i recylced 8 of them :-) (literally, for ally scrap)

any chance of a dx > gt on one pin photo shoot? and CCing of the dx/lx ?

I'll see if I can get you some CC figures for the NA F2 one over the w/e.

Apologies, I said I was going to do it back in sep, but things really got out of hand time wise.

Unfortunately the only F2T ones I own, are needed to make my car go at the moment.
