this question is broken. there are only ms1 and ms2, then there are boards that you can run them in, again, 2 options, v2.2 and v3 or v3.5 (same but smd)

i have ms2 with v3 board and would recommend the same to anyone. mine runs ms2e2alpha software, but ms2e release is pretty close, and the late betas are pretty fricking good indeed.

costs:
ms2/v3 see diyautotune for price on diy/built versions
innovate lc1 see diyautotune for price on this
hybrid fe3/miata cas built by me from parts of existing fe3 and miata cas given to me by a dodgy guy.
sierra granada 36-1 and vr sensor given to me buy inlaw from uk.
coils, stock fe3 lying around
ditto ignitors
leads nz$5 each
custom machining to fit the trigger wheel to the crank, free, did it myself on a uni lathe.
etc.

ie, the main costs are obvious or application specific.

(if you arnt going to use it than why bother with MS)
not so fast batman :
although i'd never try it without a wbo2 sensor, you can do it. simply, you tune it rich such that it misses etc, then you lean back a bit, then you advance in the usual fashion. in cruise, you lean it out as much as you can, and adjust idle to be smoothest with best vacuum. in short, you can do it, but you need good judgement. i like precision, so i'll always use a wideband.

Quote:
and for those of you using it EGT.
i dont see the point of this. what it tells you is that you have screwed up designing your setup, or that your ign advance is WAY wrong. if your afr is good, and your adv is good, egt is what it is.

I am currently close to completion of my F8 to FE3N-T stroker and there is know piont in using the F2t ecu and sensors. I feel this will help others as well.

i dont get as consistant info as you did so the thread would be slopy and slow, but currently my engine has been at my machineist for a month and a half. This i because i live on the second floor of a small appartment or else i would have completed it allready, but he does great work. The EGT thing is the most reliable tool for tunning your timing advance or retard. That is what we use on ProMods and they run like 4.21 et's and at 164 mph in the 8'th mile.

theres a reason that those things are hard to quantify :-)

i could fwd you copies of my bank statements if you like. then you could quickly remove gas and food, and all that would be left would be trusty ute bits :-)

there is also a difference between a minimal installation and a hardcore one.

ie, one fuel pump, no surge tank, stock wiring loom merged onto a db37, etc.

compared to two fuel pumps, surge tank, hard out filter, custom high temp wiring loom, etc etc.

i wouldnt have a clue what i spent on all the small things. i can hardly remember what i spent on the big things.

fred.

I was just trying to set up a budget for the conversion and trying not to forget anything. Now if only i was done with college so i would have time to catch up all of my projects, like the f8d1 to fe3n-t. I cant wait to see the diffrence in tourqe and hp as apposed to the f2 and f2t i drive daily. The only thing i still need to reed is the peramiters and signal outputs for the diffrent sensors along with the spark options avalible, I love MSD. What othe options are out there for MS and spark besides EDIS and now the option of hooking up the factory distributor. How well does this work anyway? I still have the factory dissy from my F8 and would rather hook it up instead of a trigger wheel and VR sensor.

you can use the optical sensor to trigger the ecu regardless of whether you use the rest of the dizzy to do anything. then you can run your choice of wasted spark or cop setups with any number of (somewhat pointless under 30psi) boxs for cdi etc...

two factory wasted coils or four factory fe3 coils and ignitors and you are away!

fred.

my home made and modified stim with ribbon connecting it to my v3/ms2 with edis and paranoid reliability mods before code became available for COP and i modded it again.

that stim is known as v1 or something now. there is a new different design with more chips and more complex, and also a cool PIC based one that can simulate trigger wheels of many types for COP/wasted setups. those are a bit more expensive though, but with mine it wasnt possible to test it fully before installing. which worked out ok, but isnt ideal if its your daily or something.
