Scat Forged Rods Bulk Buy !!

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN EDITED BY A MODERATOR.

THIS IS POTENTIALLY A SCAM, AND UNTIL IT IS RESOLVED, NO FURTHER THREADS, EXCEPT THE ONES STICKIED HERE, WILL BE ALLOWED. THIS THREAD IS LOCKED INORDER TO MAINTAIN THE "QFT" INFORMATION WITHIN. A DISCUSSION THREAD HAS BEEN CREATED.

-------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to buy forged rods for my fe3, but I couldn't find any except for the $700 pauter machine ones. I use scat rods in my camaro and love them, it was under $200 for a set of 8 forged rods with arp hardware. anyway I decided to contact them about making some for the fe3/kia. They responded with an awsome price, but I hope we can get enough people.
Here's the email he sent back:

Thank you for thinking of SCAT for your connecting rods need. For us to do
the rods for you, we would require an order of 180 pieces @ $65 each. We would
require an 50% deposit and two sample rods. You ETA would be 90 to 120 days to
have built. I attached a custom rod form to this email, we would need for that
to be completed and return to start everything.

Rod specs:
Forged H-beam rods
4340 Steel
Heat Treated
Shot Peened
ARP 2000 bolts
balanced within +/- 1 gram
He said they are good for around 1000hp and 10,000 rpm

thats $260 for four forged rods!!
So we need 45 people to buy a set of four.

THESE CAN BE SHIPPED WORLDWIDE!

i hate to be a debbie downer here but ill say it before Sick posts it...I doubt you get 45 people to commit to buy something, even for that price...

There have been numerous "bulk buys" for stuff from custom headers to lightweight pulleys...none have ever gone through...

Its not that people may not want them but the site is waning in amounts of people as our car grows older and older....id guess about a 1/4 to a 1/2 of the people on this site are highschoolers who this is there first car and their just looking for a way to maintain it until they can get something better (speaking from experience...not the last part but the first...)

Also, the chance of 45 different, active, people that will be able to pay on time see this and sign up is slim to none...

I hope you do however get lucky....thats why im posting so this stays at the top....good luck to ya

blah blah blah we've already heard everyone crying about bulk buys 100 times

but schwin for that price, im most definitely in

maybe fred or someone can let the aussies know, they might be interested, especially at that price

i'd pay up to 4-500$ if more money is needed for a smaller group buy. definitely let me know

SCAT is nice gear, but you need to provide more specs.

tensile strength of the fasteners, like you said, I or H, physical thickness/size compared to stock in terms of girth for boost, dimensions of bolts in terms of diameter of the shank for a basic layman comparison with stock.

expected max sustained rpm with X gram piston/pin combo on the end at Z stroke, etc.

I'd be looking to get flash rods to either
A spin higher than 7500 on stock stroke
B spin higher than 6800 on 2.2 stroke
C handle more than 15 - 20psi in either case

If they are specced appropriately then that price is VERY nice indeed. What rpm/torque/stroke figures did you specify to him?

It would be nice to see him say "they will handle X ftlb each to Y rpm with Z stroke.

Even then though, sadly, i cant be in on this :-|

Good on you for trying, i wish you the best of luck.

I was surprised by the last bulk buy, but this one is even higher in required numbers, though, it is a good deal. fingers crossed! :-)

fred.

Yeah, I may be interested pending some more detail.....
My application, I'd probably get away with stock rods, but at that price...I could easily have my arm twised, after all I havent put the thing together yet...

is this is about rods for the stock fe3 crank? sice there are so much f2ts on this forum why dont we make them for the 2.2 crank. along with the f2t pistons this would make a verry nice compressionratio.
id be in for one set but only for the 2.2 crank!

So you want a rod that's 4mm shorter than the original fe3 rod, correct?

Sorry for my bad english.

jep! this way you can use the f2t pistons and get a compresion rate from round about 8. ( calculated this a while back but dont remember exactly)
