Sounds mad Valve reliefs are important. haven't really given it a thought, but not entirely neglected it either. Gotta be prepared, I certainly do want to keep it non-interference.

I have a bench mill at my disposal though, I think I'll rather have a go with it instead

and then used an ultrasonic cleaner and very strong alkaline detergent to wash the parts
You don't happen to have a link to where to source some of this alkaline detergent do you?

I do, but it wouldn't do you any good. Bought it from the local budget warehouse Pressure washer detergent with subtle water addition, recommended dilution in hand washing 1:50, so I used 50:50 . VERY strong base.

Just go looking for pressure washer detergent concentrate on hardware store, you really should find something If it's small parts you're going to clean, ultrasonic (and a drop of dishwasher fluid) is better than super strong detergent and no ultrasonic. Small jewellery ultrasonics are good for small parts and are quite inexpensive.

Those ultrasonics need a bit of break-in, so don't expect flawless result on your first go

In the other news, there has been no word from the machine shop whether the block is okay or not.

What I did this week was I bought an F35 gearbox to replace the not yet grenaded G-type box

It's from Saturn L, technically the same car to Opel/Vauxhall Vectra and SAAB 9-3. The quaife F35 gearkit is not listed for it, but I'm certain it'll fit, with modifications if not else. It'll take a ton of mods to get it into 626 anyway...

The gearing's a bit tall, for the planned redline the theoretical top speed is about 205 MPH...

I'm not sure if the H-type would've been much better, and likely not any cheaper either, though the shipping is still a bit mystery. There's no ATB diff option readily available for it (finding an available Guru ATB is a matter of luck) and though very steeply priced, the F35 has a gearkit available with rather stout shafts and gears, and six speeds

hybrid gearbox...sounds like a project. Though, if there's any way to fit the F35, it'll be a bit stronger than the H box.

The projects on a waiting stance right now, it's all waiting for the parts to arrive / get worked on. Unfortunately for the bulk buy parts it's not unusual for engine parts to take few months to arrive from the states. Considering the rods take up to three months just to engineer and manufacture, I'm not very hopeful the engine will be running anytime soon really. Which on the other hand gives a good incentive to build it with care and not skip any steps.

Unhappy Bad news from the machinist

Got the news from the machine shop. The block is beyond repair for my needs.

I already ordered a new block, hopefully it's not cracked. At least it's not corroded.
