Ultra Quiet High Flow exhaust - FE3 turbo

Replaced my ceramic cat with a 200 cell metal cat, and just dropped in this giant (6" x 12" x 22") straight through magnaflow 12578 to replace my eBay Raptor turbo style restriction of a muffler. The previous muffler was oriented front to back, vs. the magnaflow's current near side to side - similar to OE. Exhaust is 3" from right off the internal wg housing to the tailpipe. Also have an 18" glass pack (louvers open to the flow) between the muff and cat. Flex section just ahead of the cat, just after the downpipe drops under the car.

I position the magnaflow for the absolute minimal bends (straightest exhaust path) while still getting it tucked up under the car.

I am absolutely amazed at how quiet this exhaust is under all driving conditions- idle, cruise, low load, and full load. In theory this should flow better than the previous muffler too - what the turbo wants.

tilt and tuck - minimal bends ftw

OE tailpipe exit position

front side of muff - enough clearance for the diff and swaybar

previous Raptor muffler

Youtube vid link (available in high quality - Wuw3WXALHTo). Went with rear view for max sound benefit, not as loud as 18 year old car squeaks and rattles.
No traction in 1st and 2nd at full throttle, even when rolling into as in the vid. Final run (after roundy exit) is 4th gear from <2k to just under 7k rpm.

auto youtube vid embedding ftw!!!

People must trip out when a little Miata pulls up to merge and all of a sudden is the fastest car on the highway. Thats awesome!

It runs, and runs reliably. BUT there are so many things that need to be addressed, fixed or redone (like this muffler) that you'd be better off just building your own and asking me what not to do along the way.

I have a magnaflow muffler as wel. It sits underneath the middle of the car. I love the way it sounds, not too loud and not too deep. At high rpms you can hear more of the engine and dump pipe.

Nice to finally be able to hear non-wind in one of your vids :-)

It certainly does sound quick! Power to weight ftw ;-)

Any chance of a camera on ground in drive idle/rev a bit / rev a lot and woosh vid?

How about a facing forward with a road that makes you floor it more (and brake) ?

Keep up the good work fixing all that wrong shlt.

Fred.
