Billet Cranks

Has any body looked at getting a billet crank made up . Just want to get one made so its a bit light im doing the FE3 head on the F2T block . So i what every thing to be perfect.

This is the problem faced when fitting an FE3 head to an F2 block. (Pics are Jesiotrots)






However, it could be done fairly easily.

Here is an Escort with a twin cam F2T. Keep in mind this is an old build. Sorry, no high res pics.

Ha no not gay it was a easy job aswell. And iv got a 2.0 litre crank in there aswell with a rod ratio of over 2.0 not bad a rod length of 6.850" CH off 1.130

I don't care about the block mismatch, you want to spend megabucks on a part that you 110% do not need or even care about. Cranks are heavy for a reason and bottom end issues are non-existant.

Only sensible reason for a billet crank is to have full counterweights, but there's no way you could get lighter than stock piece. The cast iron is not gray iron but ductile (nodular) cast iron, which is nothing like brittle gray iron.

Another thing is while steel can be alloyed to great strength, it's modulus, or stiffness, can't be significantly increased. Thus if structures are downsized to match the increased strength, the stiffness is inevitably reduced, causing greater deformation.
