please help FE3 Questions?

I know there are 2 FE3 dohc motors but how can you distinguish the difference between them? I know one of them are 170 HP and the other one is around 140 HP. Are both motors 2.0 16 Valve motors? But when you buy an FE3 motor at your nearest engine import dealer how do you know your getting the 170 HP one? Is the cover for the dual over head cams gold for the 170 hp engine? PLease help me guys i don't want to buy the wrong one?
Another thing do the the Fe3 motors come in the Mazda 626 years 1990-1998 because, on a site under manifolds the 626 years 90-98 had 2.0 16 vlave next to it, and I was wondering if that was the Fe3 manifold? If so I was thinking about getting a custom manifold there because I'm not that skilled to make my own manifold, lol. By the way the site was majestic turbos. They have nice turbo upgrades here too!

Thanks guys.

Yep I spent a lot of time making that post please read it. Although the oil pan is a good clue on what comp it should be. The 10:1 comps have a cast grided pan. the others do not.

I found my answer. The easiest way is to just take the cam cover off to see i it says "FE5A" because the motor is already out the car. Also I'll try to look for a o2 sensor missing. Thanks guys.

The high and low comps can both say FE5A. I beileve that is just the mold they used for it. Could be wrong.
Your best bet is still the oil pan. Mine had an o2 sensor but the cast pan is a dead giveaway.

ok i got it so when I look at it, if its a cast iron oil pan like the Fe2 chances are that its the low compression motor. But if it has a aluminum oil pan chances are that its the high compression motor. Thanks evo & rebel, oh yeah rebel when I get it can you make me a manifold too. I have a T3- T4 Garrett upgraded turbo off a ford Merkur XR4TI.

Yeah man sure, I'll see what I can do. I want to see how evo's fits first so I know where to make the turbine inlet. Fe3's sit a little different under the hood than an F2.

I was already planning on making like 3 or 4 more. So let me know.

Let me see if I can clearfie the oil pan thing. Basicly if the oil pan looks like the F2 oil pan on your car it should be the low comp.
If it was a grid on it then it should be the high comp.

do you have any pics of the oil pan , what do you mean by grid? do you mean aluminum when you say that?

what if I do get the low cmpression 145 FE3 motor the only difference is the pistons which I can always change, right or wrong? How much is this really diferent from the high compression motor?
