Update: so i've been workin on this car for the last 2 weeks, window is working well, engine is running pretty good, no more lake inside. most of this time however has been spent polishing the hell out of the damn paint...it's not done yet, but it's come a long way. the oxidation on the hood, roof, and trunk was really bad. the sunroof was rusted out pretty bad so i replaced with one i had sitting around.

here's some before and afters. since i never take enough photos before i start something the headlights are just left(before) and right(after).

check out the hood and the difference between the headlights

Now all i did with the headlights was polish them with some turtlewax liquid polish by hand

some of this

a lot of this

and a lot of rubbing.

good luck, it takes a long time (repeat often).

you could use an electric buffer, but i've found that it's easy to burn through paint this old. so i stuck to the hard way...it's safer.

Gets rid of the serious [shizzle]. You could also use a clay bar.

nice car man, free car too mine too was given to me for free and I had some small problems to repair like you, my driver window wasn't going up due to the switch, the interior handle to open the door was missing, the key lock wasn't working( I took the one from the passenger door and put it on the driver door after inverting the mechanism )
small fixes but once done you'll feel great investing that time cuz its a free car, you could sell it anytime and make some money out of it or just race it like me without worrying if you brake it since you didn't pay to get it lol

good luck and don't forget to enjoy it

hey man can someone pm for for this rubbing work, Ive painted half of my car (I know sounds lame but paint matches the color perfectly and the rest of the paint was in perfect shape) anyways Ive painted some parts of my car and Ive been told by the guy at the paint shop that I need some rubbing and some waxing after 1month to make the paint shine like the rest of the car cuz now its a little big shaded because of the fume!?. When you say you used the hard way you mean you did it by hands without the electric buffer????Should I go that way too?I don't want to destroy my fresh paint.
