MX6 Number 2 - Lucky13

so i acquired a second mx6 this past friday (the 13th, just happens to be black on top of that). got it for free, an old friend of mine knows nothing about cars, the alternator is bad the drivers window doesn't go up, and he just wanted to get rid of it. unfortuantely it's been raining everyday for the past month...so there was a small lake in the car. i spent saturday taking the interior out (removing the seats, cutting the carpet out, poked holes in the floor to drain the water and other things that were living in it). got an alterntor on sunday, but then it rained all afternoon, so that hasn't gone in yet. i have most of the interior from my first 6 in my closet, so they might go to use.

so these photos are before i began working on it. i'll update as the progress unfolds.

the family

dammit, I'm so jealous of all the people who keep finding these for free, for $300 for $100 I keep seeing this it drives me nuts. If I could find these deals, I'd have a whole damn family of MX6's.

Lucky bastard!

Why don't you jumpstart the window motor and get that window rolled up?

the motor wasn't the problem, or at least not the only one...the tracks themselves were messed up, the plastic pieces that run in the tracks had disintegrated and the window had nothing to attach to the tracks with. Hughes is hooking me up with news tracks. i currently have the window up with c-clamps.

i got the a/c compressor out today to reach the alternator....i still have a bolt to remove on the old alternator (what a bitch). i got lucky on the alternator, got a bosch unit from a junk yard that looks brand new for 40 bucks (it passed the test at autozone).

Pencil

update: i replaced the alternator, put everything back together, and put fluids (oil, coolant) in it. ran it for a few minutes and it started smokin from the front of the block. the front of the block was covered in old oil, so i tightend the valve cover, cleaned the block and manifold best i could with brake cleaner, and ran it again. this time it smoked a lot less and soon burned off the remaining oil.

i spent several days polishing the extremely oxidized paint (still have a few more to go) and its really started to turn out a million times better than i would have expected. once i have it the best it's gonna get it i'll wax it. i'll post before and after photos of that soon.

i'm still waiting for my new window tracks to arrive, but they will most likely go in this week.

this car is an atx...i still haven't decided what i'm gonna do with it (sell it, etc...). i was planning to swap to mtx if i kept it, but after i went over the long list of parts and all for the job i figured it wasn't worth it...i mean i already have one. so now i'm thinking if i dont sell it first i might as well make use of having an extra car to really mess with, and if i can find the funds and the means to do it, i'm gonna try to put a 4g63t evo 5+ motor and tranny in it. i know half of you will love the idea and half will think i'm an idiot, but i personally i dont give a sh*t...this is something i've wanted to do a long time. not many people can say they have an awd mx6, but if there's any drivetrain that would likely work with the least amount of fabrication i'd say it's that one.

i really dont care to hear all the pessimism that will follow this post, i know it's not gonna be easy and i know it's gonna cost a good chunk of change. i will probably never get around to it for the money aspect of it, but maybe someday some how it'll happen.
