Not too much. I replaced mine a while back and the motor doesn't weigh more than 2-3 pounds. Mine will be coming out eventually since I've also completely removed the radio.

damn chef, good to see your stripping out the interior.

that way when you sell it to me i can argue that its not worth anything because i cant haul my friends around

JK man, looks identical to my car right now. Im about to cut out the rear deck too. I cant stand the way it reflects off the window when i look in the rear view. Its pretty fun running around with no passenger seat. "Can i get a ride??" ... "you wanna sit on the floor?" and if they say yes, you can brake check the [shizzle] out of them, its great.

If you havent taken it for a ride yet, i'de say its time to. Just to see if you can stand the noise difference. It doesnt bother me at all.

If you dont like your moonroof, that motor weighs something around 6/7 pounds.

Im even contemplating making a custom dash (really just something to connect the a pillars, and hold up the steering column). The stock dash weighs like 52 pounds.
I've got some MINT black carpet, and 4 mint black floor mats i'de sell you if the price was right . I may even have some black front seat belts... i know i've got black rear ones, if you happen to want those.

I'll get it out for a ride when I get everything removed. There's much more to go.

Whitenoyz is going to help me out with some of the stuff I want and I should be able to get the rest from the pick and pull.

What really separates the men from the boys is the willingness to go in and remove all the stock wiring that is no longer being used for the audio, the sunroof, etc. That weighs a significant amount.

Now you need to remove the dash, and weld in a cross bar with a custom fiberglass or CF dash with a race gauge system. Follow this by removing the sound deadening with dry ice. Then weld in a cage and paint your interior (white looks good), rhinolining the part of the floor where your feet sit only. Finish by making sheet metal door covers.

'91 Miata, BEGi s2 turbo kit (GT2560r), 2.5" exhaust, Torsen LSD, AEM WBO2, 460cc injectors, MegasquirtPNP, Tein flex, Hyperflex bushings, 15x8 949Racing 6UL's, 225/45/15 Hankook RS2's, HDHCDDHT rollbar. Only SOME of this is actually installed on the car right now though. lol. Dang procrastination!

I'm all over it. I aint skeert!

The problem with removing too much wiring is I am not sure what my MS unit is hooked up to. I don't want to risk [fizzle]ing that up and having to re-wire it. The audio wiring will go, as well as any other wiring I am not using anymore. I think the sunroof motor and wiring are going to stay until I can figure out a way to be able to remove the sunroof totally while cruising that will also hold it in tight when I put it back in. I was thinking about setting up some sort of clips or something to hold it in. I'll have to look at it and figure something out.

The dash will be removed to replace the factory tan one so I may take the unnecessary parts off it while it is out. I will also be removing the heater core, blower motor, and whatever else is behind the dash that I don't find necessary anymore.

I am also planning on getting race gauges eventually to replace the stock unit. I no longer trust my fuel or temp gauges so I might as well get new stuff.

I want a cage like weaksauce's eventually but it won't be soon. The interior is going to stay black for sure but I might pick an accent color and paint the cage when I get one.

I will be removing the sound deadening material and then either putting black carpet in or just using grip tape under where my feet are.

I was also toying with the idea of making some aluminum door panels like the ones piers14 made from CF.

Im planning on doing everything that has been mentioned so far.

Trent, sorry on the seat. I was talking to a buddy in town about your memoryfab, and he told me this other guy had a kirkey he was never going to use. I got a brand new kirkey economy drag for 65$.... it weighs 12# . definitely not as comfy as your would have been, im sure.

Im seriously contemplating taking out as much flooring as i can, and just welding in some thin ass aluminum.

Might even get real serious and remove the F + R strut bars, maybe even the sway bars :P

I thought about removing the fog lights.... it would let me have better IC piping.. but i like them too much.

My original plan was to cage my car also... not sure if i want to now, it will just add back a bunch of weight .

I remember seeing pictures of piers, but i cant find them. Do you have any chef?

I found one. Not from my files though. His car is ridiculous. I don't think I will be taking mine quite that far.

He doesn't have them installed in the most recent pictures I found. It looks like he took his webpage down. He had some really good shots of his custom roll cage too. I knew I should have saved all of them.

No worries. I ended up getting my asking price for it from a member on miataturbo.net. Nice find on that Kirkey!

meh, i'll do almost as much as him aside from the door panels, most likely.

i want to keep my power windows... and working sunroof. I dont think that i'll do anything to elminate those, even there theres prolly 20 pounds to be had from it.

20 pounds can be made up elsewhere. I've lost 25 pounds since last year around this time. Personal weight reduction FTW!

Yeah, I am probably just going to do the stuff in this thread and make up for any sluggishness the car has by getting it boosted like it deserves to be.

ROUND TWO! FIGHT!!

I got the dash pulled today. I got it out in about an hour with only minor flesh wounds. I didn't even need to get frustrated at it. The shop that did my wiring for my MS and my wideband made a tragic mess of their wiring so I had to cut some dash stuff out to get the wiring free. I also removed the harness from the dash so I can re-connect everything before I forget how everything was connected.

CARNAGE!

I'm going out now to get some black zip ties to tidy her up. She sure needs it.

I also plan on removing everything related to the HVAC system with the exception of the heater core because I have no idea how to cap the coolant lines that run into it. Any suggestions?

Use cooper caps to close the heater core hoses.

Thanks Keeloh. Will they need to be soldered on?

Just shorten the water hose and cap it from the engine.
