Description: This brand new car was run over by an Abrams M1A2 Tank. The tank was taken out of it's shed in the morning and a "No Parking Area" was set-up where the tank would be driving. Unfortunately this area didn't include the area immediately in front of the tank shed. The owner of the RX-8 returned from lunch parking in his usual spot, and went back to work. When the tank was being driven back to the shed the spotter failed to alert the tank driver that he was backing up into the car.
The tank just skimmed along the side of the car and ripped off the side until the tank climbed the fender and crushed the engine. The car was written off after a strange phone call to the owners insurance company and 3 unbelieving supervisors. The tank sustained a dime sized chip on its paint, that may or may not have been there to begin with.
I doubt the Canadian Army can afford one Abrams tank let alone the spare parts to support it. We do make the fire control systems for the tank apparently, and after some Googling, I wonder if this might be the tank involved (take note of the address of GD Canada). The company is doing upgrades for these tanks so they probably have one on hand for testing purposes.
when the [shizzle] hits the fan, i'm not sure i would want a canadian tank operator protecting me... :P

LOL yeah if that was my new RX-8, I'd be just a little peeved too!
I'm sure our Canadian Forces are usually more competent than what occured here. General Dynamics probably had some computer engineer dude or junior army scrub drive the tank out while his buddy was directing him. They likely don't have professional tank commanders available on staff to drive the vehicle.
I honestly don't know why they didn't have some FRS radios or something to yell, "Okay, stop, you're plowing into the RX-8 here..."
my dad works at GD in ottawa and knows the owner of this rx-8...
the tank was turning around the corner of the building (its a spot on a hangar where all the people with nice cars park)...when the tank reached visible sight of the car it was too high to see the car, and clipped it
the owner was actually happy as the company paid off his lease and he hated the car
