Angry Brother's Millenia has Tranny Issues

So my brother has a 95 Millenia with the famous "autotragic" that is associated with our mx6's. Well, yesterday during our snow storm he decided that he was going to go to the store. As soon as he backed it out of the driveway all he heard was a loud clunk and then grinding. His car wont go into any gear now and it even grinds in neutral.

You can still move the gear lever and the wheels still turn but the car has no forward gears, no reverse, and neutral. Can anyone pin point the problem or find me a new tranny. I know that the tranny is shot, or possible just the torque converter but if you guys have any advice, let me know. I really would like to swap it for a 5-speed but I don't think the Millenia ECU would work with a 5-speed.

I'm selling pretty much everything that I don't need on my car. Hit up the for sale section for some nice goodies.

well the tranny IS definitely shot. when mine took a crap on me, i bought a ze zuto tranny for $250 on ebay and picked it up and had a local shop guy put it in for $300. beats the $1800 aamco quoted me at.

mine: 93 ZE, clutchmaster clutch, fidanza flywheel, poly motor mounts, HS CAI, HS headers, ractive exhaust, F&R strut bars, ground controls on illuminas, SS clutch line, espec heads/corners and much much more!!
hers: 93 ZE. pretty much the same mods. + F&R drilled rotors, STS, h&r's

Yeah, I'm assuming that we blew the diff. I just found out that there is a difference between the millenia tranny and the mx6 tranny. The 93-95 auto trannies were 3 bolt and the 96-97's were 4 bolt. The Millenia only uses a 4 bolt tranny. So, I'm ASSUMING that the 96-97 mx6 tranny would work in the millenia. What do you guys think?

I think it depended on what kind of millenia you have. The KL tranny is the same regardless but I think the KJ or millenia-S engine has the 4 bolt. So in that case it is different.


Just noticed you were the owner of Chris' engine and you supercharged it...HOLY CRAP lol. I saw him make 199whp n/a with bad tuning. That thing has to be a beast.

Is this Millenia a 2.5L (KL) or 2.3L (KJ)? I have never heard of a 2.3L trans failing (same cannot be said for the 2.5L trans, however).

Yeah, the Millenia is a KL. It has the same [shizzle]ty auto trans as our mx6. I'm just trying to find out if an mx6 trans will fit on it. Someone told me the 93-95 mx6's had a 3 bolt tranny and the96-97 had a 4 bolt. Then I heard that the millenia had a 4 bolt tranny as well. If anyone could find me a definete answer, that would be great.

Dr. Brown, yes it is beast I have the engine out right now, contemplating building the bottom end. It doesn't need it but forged goodies are great. I might just put in my CZT valvesprings and call it a day. I really need to find a complete ZE manifold though. Megasquirt and hopefully traction bars this spring.
