Resetting oil change required light? (various models)

hey guys im hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction. im looking to find out if there is a chart (or information where i can make my own chart) with the procedure on how to reset the change engine oil light (not check engine) on cars... i need it for all models chevy, ford, dodge, mazda, etc... i work for a oil and lube place and its always a struggle to figure out how to shut those things off... if there is place that would tell me that would be great. Karma will be dispensed accordingly

Yeah, those buggers are annoying the first time. Me and my bro sat for 20 minutes trying to figure out how to reset the oil life. I'll post it up tomorrow when I ask him how we did it again, lol.

I don't have a solution but I admire the problem

Depends on the manufactures, some are a reset button in the fuse panel like saturns, others are a key on-off procedure, they are always explained in the owner's manual.

What kind of hack shop do you work at? They should have that information there for you when you start working.

... walmart Tire Lube Express most of the guys there are old v8 guys that dont work with computers. technically resetting the oil life light or whatever is "not a service that walmart offers" (from my manager) but im just trying to find out so i have a few less customers yelling at me

and some i have looked through the owners manual and there is nothing in there... no procedure hell i looked in one for the recommended oil and it said "Use Recommended Oil Only" ...... went page by page through the manual and so did the customer (cause he was pissing a brick about the weight of the oil) and nothing

more than likely it requires an OBDII reader than can reset the change oil/oil life code. You can pick those up at Kragen probably, for under $70.

^^No, there is always a trick to reset it. Whether it be pedal pumps, using the radio, or turning the car on/off with a combination of things.

2005 Chev Trailblazer LT
1) Turn Ignition to RUN with engine off
2) Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly 3 times within 5 seconds
3) Turn the key to LOCK

If it does not work, repeat 1 - 3 again till it does.

Right from the owners manual.

If the vehicle has a Drivers Information Center. Screen under the Speed. Press the (Gas pump symbol) select the oil life screen, then press and hold the select button (back arrow on steering wheel) for 5 seconds the display then will read (Oil Life Reset)

Nah- All Hondas there are tricks to (unless the '09's have something to offer that I haven't seen yet).. and almost all of them involve the select/reset button. Some of them are getting a bit ridiculous with the combinations and/or length of time the button needs pressed, but it's there.
BUT.. I'm almost positive newer veedubs need a scanner.

With a Pontiac G5, you can reset the oil life meter through the Driver Information Center. You scroll to the Oil Life screen and hold the reset button, it'll reset.

For a Silverado 2500HD (Duramax) you go through the same procedure as posted above for the Trailblazer.

For a Malibu, I can probably look it up in my mom's owner's manual...
