Yes, it is 21mm. Yes, it is normal threaded (right hand?) so counter-clockwise should pull it out.

The starter / breaker bar against control arm will put more torque than your impact gun can probably deliver. This approach just risks your tools getting broken.

I've heard this before, but I tried the started method with the breaker bar against the LCA and it didn't work at all. Air wrench took it off first shot.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The man who had nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -John Stuart Mill

Did it jam against the LCA and not allow the engine to turn? If so, place it a little further away from the LCA so it can get a "running start" at before stopping.

Or did the ratchet turn freely? Either put the ratchet in the other direction because it was wrong, or your ratchet can't handle the force being put on it and is being ratcheted in the other direction by force.

My impact gun is rated for 1000 ft/lb. Has taken every one off I've ever tried. But before I owned it, the LCA/breaker bar trick worked every time.

Thx guys, I ended up renting a 3/4 inch drive impact electric drive impact. Even that took a couple of minutes rattling before it broke free!! Talk about going exxtreme!

That mustve been one cheap ass gun! What brand/model was it? My cordless 18v Snap-on 1/2" impact zaps off crank pulley bolts nearly as good as my pnuematic IR 2135Ti does!

its the pulley that attaches to the crank - the lowest pulley and yes the one that sometimes breaks in half...
