Only way I'll trust a turbo is if I crack it myself. After seeing turbochargers taken apart and having seen bearing grease applied to the inside of a couple turbo's, I don't trust any one of them.
They are good from 225-275, depending on your tune and will be good in the low 20's for boost.
so its a big turbo that will take a while to spool but be decent? im just looking at rebuilding (for real this time ) and turboing my n/a and want a nice but not ungodly turbo on there

In need of good condition, cheap F2 in the southeast
pfft your smokin crack if you think that turbo needs a rebuild. you cant judge by a picture......i personally have had no issues w used turbos and have plenty of friends in the same boat. if you know what to look for your chances of having issues arent that much. as long as it has no shaft play and doesnt leak\burn oil, then by all means boost that [shizzle]. i wouldnt take it much out of its efficiency, maybe 18psi max

and on a f2, that is a great street turbo.
so I guess you don't care what someone has done to a turbo before you?
Here are some pictures of a turbo that was reportedly "freshly rebuilt" by someone else
So you see...you can get it and run it all you want...just beware of what you're getting yourself into, and yes, that thick gray material is bearing grease on the turbine, thrust collar, bearings and center housing with a worn down thrust bearing and undoubtedly unbalanced.
i about died... the guy keeps referring to the thrust bearing as "half moon thingy on compressor side" then proceeds to call it "the discumbobulator retaining half spherical connector" im crying from laughing so hard
note to self dont use that writeup

ive ran 18-20 psi on both of my used turbos, still didnt smoke or have shaft play when i was done with them. troy ran 20psi on a 60 trim for months. brandon has ran used turbos many times with no issue. and at this altitude, the turbine must spin much faster to make the same pressure as sealevel. you just have to know what to look for
dont assume it needs a rebuild because a forum member had it or used it. for all you know it could have been removed from a stock low mileage motor in the yard. ive seen plenty of rebuild stories that grenade or smoke.
nobody in there right mind should pay 100-200 for an older turbo, and then pay 300-500 for a rebuild. its a complete waste of money for a turbo that old, and you know it. that turbo is straight out of the 80s, outdated
edit - looby i see the price is only 40+shipping. ask the seller if it has shaft play or uses oil. if it does, pass on the deal. otherwise, there are plenty of 16g turbos out there that will perform just as good or better, for around 200-300 bucks. that and there are t3 60 trims in good shape poppin up all over ebay for around 100 bucks
