this is kinda tricky

3 men go into a motel. the man behind the desk says the room is 30$. so each man pays 10$ and goes back to the room.

a while later the man realized the room was only 25$. so he gives 5$ to the bell boy to return to the men

the bellboy couldnt figure out how to split 5$ evenly between the 3 men, so he gave each man 1$, and kept the other 2$ for himself

this meant that the 3 men each paid 9$ for the room which = 27$
add the 2$ that the bellboy kept = 29$

what happened to the other dollar?

this took me a few minutes to figure out haha........k for the first who gets it right

The total the three man paid way $28

The initial $30 minus $2 that the bell boy kept.

So it's 30 - 2 not 30 - (5 - 2)

If that makes sense

right....

there are three parties involved.

The three men paid $30 minus the $3 that was returned to them, so $27 total.
The bell boy kept $2 as indicated
The owner earned $25

So, $27 paid MINUS $2 kept = $25 earned

I think I've earned my beer

anybody that is still confused (i didnt completely understand the example above at first, but it is just a shorter explination of mine) dont think $27 + $2

man 1-$10
man 2-$10 equals $30
man 3-$10

the owner gives back the $5 so he keeps his $25 that he was owed
now there is the $5 out in space, the boy keeps $2

what the men paid in the end the men paid the $25 for the room and the
man 1-$9 boy stole the left over $2
man 2-$9
man 3-$9

as i stated before, the explanation above mine is obviously right i thought i would expand on it

Each man Did not pay 9 dollars the real answer is 25/3 +1 in other words each man paid 8.3repeating + 1 so in other words 2 paid 9.3 and one paid 9.4 the trick si to devide not multiply

Good riddle!

I don't agree with 9.3 and 9.4.

They each paid $9 for hotel services, or $27

The hotel service consisted of a room ($25) and a tip ($2), or $27.

It's even.

add the 2$ that the bellboy kept... THIS is the misleading part.

Bell boy could have got more, BUT he would have had to give each man $0.33.333333 cents more. Multiply THAT by 3 and you get the missing $

So, the rounding could not be done.

My "k" please?

you subtract the $2 instead of adding it. The room was $25 they each had an extra $1 ($3 total) and the bellboy had $2, hence the $5

The riddle has been answered but to make it cristal clear, the second line is the one that makes the whole riddle.

The total the men paid out is 27$, the bellboy kept 2$ of the 27$.
There is no 29$ in the equasion and no missing 1$.

The three guys paid $10 each, and got back $1 each. 3x9 = $27.

The room cost $25. $27 - $25 = $2, which the attendant kept.

What's so confusing about this? There's no extra dollar...
