E46 or EVO?

Just curious if you would pick luxury or performance. in a few years ill be looking for a new car to retire the 6 to the garage. ive been torn between these two cars, a 2001-2003 BMW E46 330ci and a 2003-2005 Mitsubishi Evolution 8. Both obviously would be manual. E46 with sport option to get the sport seats, suspension, and steering wheel. BUT the Evo comes with stock Brembos, Recaro seats, AWD, turbo, and 4 doors. i know i could have 4 doors in a BMW but i would not get that. i have drove my brothers 2001 E46 325i. its such a great car and is the best shifting car i have shifted to date. shes a black beauty. i still cannot decide. ive been all over their forums. Evolutionm.net and e46fanatics.com i know the weak spots on the E46 from my brothers car, and i know a few on the Evo. since it will be daily driver i want reliablility, but its still gotta be pimpin. im looking to spend just under 20K and this is MANY years off but i like to have something to work for and save my money for!!

yeah, you're 16. you should be 10 years from buying a char like either of those period.

but for the record:

BMW>mitsubishi

and don't buy the 330ci....

read up and get the 135i, or 128ci....

At first I was like "hmmm tough.."The I saw your 16. I lol'd..

Glad to see you got good hopes for your future. But let's try to get of high school first before deciding (sp?) which car to retire too in a FEW (x uhmmm 5 or 6) years.

BMW any day of the week. There's no comparison. Like above, 135i is teh secks. If a series 3, I would go for an M3 and nothing less.

haha like i said its MANY years off. and i love the E46 and ///M3's are wayy to much and insurance would rape. so the 330ci is my best bet. and dont count me out yet. my brother is a soph in college and can easily afford the BMW and a brand new Yamaha R1. and i work at the same place he does and will make the money he makes soon enough. so this will be within 5 years

well, hate to spoil teh dreams, but dont worry about looking for cars until you have the cash

having said that, for a daily driver, luxury luxury luxury all the way!

i cant comment on the EVO as far as comfort, but the bimmers ive been in obviously had the time put into designing user friendly suspension, plenty of sound dampening inside and thermal insulation. these are the things you want in a daily driver.

thats why i picked a stagea as a daily driver, its not a "fast" car, but at 240hp it has plenty of power to use around town. where it gets the marks is in the comfort. leather interior, climate control, thick sound and thermal insulation, great suspension and AWD traction, and a ton of cargo space

gets like 15mpg if you drive it hard, but you cant win everywhere

LOL I loled and than I felt old... to be young and dumb... well I'm not that young anymore still have plenty of dumb though!

well heh I thought I'd be done with college bringing in the cash and driving a vette by now... as I look around I sigh heavily and say [fizzle] ....

In my opinion get all nicely dressed set a weekend where you're bro isn't busy and go test drive both cars while you're at it test drive asmany as you think are hot jsut don't tell them you're tesdriving for 10 years in the future pretend you're some spoiled brat looking for your next toy * you comming in you're bro's car would be becasue you plan on leaving in your own * dont take the six people will just laugh at you... SORRY ITS TRUE mayb not in the mitsubishi dealer but why not try out some benz's to... and you can go by the nissan dealer try out a nice z350 ....

ok mayb I jsut have a wild imagination but thats what I would do to find out which car I really wanted over just you know... blah...

When I was looking for a car which eventualy lead to my 6 I wanted a civic like every other person alive... and well when I got in one I was liek WHAT TEH FAUX THIS PEICE OF CRAP IS SLOW AS HELL................ dramatic pause and everything I tried toyotas... ( which acctualy I would take over a civic any day of the week ) I tried a gt3000 which honestly had I had the chance I would of bought... I drove some mercedez' which were nice but meh when I drove the 6 I fell inlove well acctualy I didnt know how to drive stick so when my dad drove it I wanted it haha I think I cut about 200k miles out of my engine learning to drive stick...

OK but my point being dont take anyone's word for it go drive for yourself man take the car for a spin wait till you're out of range than floor that bitch and see how you like it or run it jsut make sure you test the car properly make sure you run it at above 65mph and know hte feel of the car at low and high speeds... I know on my dad's lincoln we would be going 80 and I wouldnt feel it.. on my 6 at 100 I know I feel it... oh wait not 100 I mean 65 legal speed limit and all...

PS if you can make sence of my gramatical horror I'll give you a karma point...

Everything thats dangerous is Fun! But not everything thats fun is dangerous!

unless you're going to be making north of 60k/yr anytime soon, I'd just save up some money and pick up a 325ix. If you regularly like out of warranty work done on your bimmer that your typical invoice will be $1000, by all means get the E46!

Tem - yeah i really do need to test drive em. evo manily. but in the near future i will for sure!

Zach - see thats the thing my bro got his 325i for 15K all said and done and it has been AMAZING, i can get a 330ci for about 17K out the door with around 60K miles he had 70K when he got his. and i know the weak points in the E46 and we have done everything to it ourselves and it saved my brother thousands of dollars, so theres no worrys in doing the work our selves

regardless, whether that's the case or not, read up on the 135i and 128ci.

more affordable, and the 135i is closest thing to an M3.

the 135i is a 2dr 335i that's a little lighter. 300hp twin turbo v6 in that baby, and it handles like a dream. like a bmw. the 135i has the Msport design.

so i suggest if you're going to get a bimmer, read up on what's coming out new (they start coming this spring, retail in the states is ~$40K, a little under).

my other suggestion outside of what you've put up, is the nissan 3.5SE Altima coupe. seriously, its the same car as the Infiniti G35.

oh, also, post your reasons as to why you want the 330ci, cuz honestly, there are much better choices from bmw.

i'm a bimmer enthusiast always and before i am an mx-6 enthusiast. before anything else. bmw is numer 1 on my pages.

well the best choice for me is the 330ci i love the car, i cant explain it. but its just me. they look and perform very nice and hold the BMW name well. remind you that around 20K will be my max. so the 330ci fits in there nicely. plus i LOVE the seats and steering wheel with the sport package.

understandable. but when the 135i and 128i/ci come around take em for a drive. by the time you're going to be buying one of these vehicles, they'll be under $20k for an '08.

IMO Neither!

BMW will be insane$$$ to repair since you're looking for an 01 in a few more years.

EVO - Negated since you also stated you wanted good DD reliability.

IMHO - Set a goal for yourself but wait until you're at least out of college to commit yourself to a monthly payment.

see thats the thing, i can go to college and do the monthly payments with no problem. my brothers doing it with his BMW. no reason why i should wait till im out of college. and the BMW is really not that much to repair if you know where to get the parts and know what your doing.
