Thats how it is here, most of the people that i see are all excited about minimum wage going up, but they dont realize that as the wages go up so are prices. Its just gonna hurt us more with inflation and lower the value of the dollar even more than it currently is.

Inflation right now is about 4%, your average savings acount is 2.5%-3%(if your lucky). Basically your money in the bank is losing money every day due to inflation.

All in all, those of us bitching about gas prices and minimum wage will all continue to get [shizzle] on by the government, why because they don't care to much about gas prices and minimum wage because they have more than enough to fill their tanks and work for much more than minimum wage. If this was france there would be a revolt and the government would be afraid of having there heads adorning a wooden stake being marched around the white house.

Don't say **sd**k, it's two points.

You get about the same mileage from CNG, there are lots of fill stations in Utah that support it and it costs about $0.60/gallon.
The main problem with it is that the tanks take up a lot of space. But a tank that will fit inside a tool box case for a truck bed will get me about 150 miles between fills and I can always switch to gas at the push of a button.
If I want to fill the entire truck bed with tanks I can get about 400 miles between fill ups.
someone needs to start getting inventive and design these trucks around those tanks. A truck bed full of gas cylinders is just more weight and defeats the purpose of a truck bed.

I work on many different types of semi trailers, and recently ive been seeing many come out with hydraulic tanks, air tanks and even secondary fuel tanks built into the frame rails. Either structurally (cross members) or the actual frame rails. Its pretty neat. They get ran pretty hard and take much more abuse then a car ever would.. and ive never seen anything crack or leak yet.

Its all a conspiracy by the oil companies to get the government to open places that are off limits to drilling. Once prices get high enough, public opinion will change when the oil companies say they could lower prices if they could only drill for more here.

And one more thing....
We (I didn't vote for him in either election) elected a man with ties to the oil industry to be our President. Then he went and invaded an OPEC (oil producing exporting country) nation (Iraq), which has angered the surrounding OPEC countries. And now we complain that fuel prices are high?

The rising cost of oil also has to do with the value of the dollar falling compared to other currencies. Our trade deficit with other countries is way to high. We import too much and export little. We at least need to go back to balanced trade like we used to have. So buy goods made in America if you can.

I heard a great analogy the other day. If you are the coach of a football team and your defense, offense, and special teams play horrible you lose every game. The coach takes the blame and gets fired every time. Well Bush is just the puppet that you see on TV. He is about 1% of the problem!! All of Congress with the exception of 5 or so congressmen are corrupt money hungry bureaucrats that are influenced by lobbyists and nothing more. Just like how Bush sends an executive order, he no longer needs congressional approval to act, even when it involves war. Because afterall they all want the same things Bush and Cheney want....OIL...WAR...CONTROL!

I was watching an interesting doco that made a great point about this. If we found some new renewable energy source that was as conveniant and powerful as petrol/gas, we would just keep expanding until another resource was in our way. Like say a sulphur shortage or something, look at the price of copper, maybe we will be invading countries to liberate their telephone lines.

Also on the stimulus checks, wasnt the whole plan designed to get you spending more because the US economy is reeling which is why your interest rates are so low??They want you to spend it on dumb [shizzle], because the people who say "[fizzle] the economy ill put it in the bank" are the ones who will use it badly. I might be wrong as everything I know about U.S standard of living etc is what i read in this lounge on mx6.com/

With gas prices as they are, it is not reasonable for minimum wage to be as low as it is for U.S. standard of living. People have to get more than one job, especially if they have to support a family.

And I think the biggest problem is that there are much more families that make less than 30,000/yr. I saw something on Wiki that said 92.7% of the overall wealth in the USA is made by 1% of the citizens. So there's an eliteist population out there that are filthy rich while the rest of us are slave labor at their mercy. Pro atheletes are a big chunk of those too!

specifically i was thinking of hydrogen fuel cells....im hoping the technology isnt going to die in the arse. take australia for example, and how much coastline we have, and thus a practically unlimited source of hydrogen, and then the sheer quantity of solar energy falling on the country capable of powering the system. obviously im not factoring cost here....astronomical costs, but the point is any country on a coastal area could create their own fuel source and we wouldnt have the oil cartels running the world holding the purse strings of the oil.

a bit optimistic i know, but its not like im talking about everlasting world peace or something unrealistic. this technology is already here and could really steer the world on a better course

Read this article, it says that oil prices could be going up another $1.50 per gallon.

Senators Warn Bill Could Spike Gas $1.50 to $5 a Gallon

It also reinforces what I said in post #35 above.

Nah, I'm going to build my own electric car/ truck. I'm thinking lightweight old Datsun truck or Honda CRX would be a good donor vehicle. Here's a couple links
