ak47 or sks?
ok guys, so i'm in the market for an assualt rifle at the current moment. i'm considering either a mak90(ak47 variant)
or an SKS ![]() either way, i'll be replacing the furniture(wooden pieces) on either one with more tactical polymer pieces. they both use the same 7.62x39mm rounds so ammo isn't an issue(quite cheap), i'm just kinda stuck in between at the moment. any opinions? *waits for all the anti-gun nuts to chime in*
How can you say 7.62 is cheap? My M4 shoots 5.56 and for CHEAP [shizzle] Wolf its around $6.00 or $7.00 for a box of 20. I know 7.62 is more expensive than 5.56... ...anyway, my friend had a Mak-90. I put a few rounds down range with it. He eventually got rid of it because he found it to be an inaccurate waste of a gun. I slightly disagree, but my experience is very minimal. The AK-47 family in general are a pretty cheap bunch of weapons, but there is a reason that they are in use by our enemy. They get the job done, and they perform pretty flawlessly. If you're looking for good craftsmanship in a weapon, DONT go for any type of AK. If Youre looking for a weapon that will perform, then go for it. As for an SKS, never fired one, never even seen one in person. A guy I work with has one. If you want I can ask him what he thinks of it, but of course his opinion will be pretty one sided because he owns one |

The reason our enemy uses the AK is simple... they are super cheap and super plentiful. And will fire no matter what you do to it. Fire yes, hit anything no.
I used both AK and SKS when I was in Iraq. AK felt cheap and flimsy. The reason it will fire in any condition is because the tolerances are so out of whack. It doesn't stay together while being fired, hence the lack of accuracy. |

See the thing about guns is blah blah blah blah whinge whinge complain complain
.Seriously though, I do find it strange how civilians can get military (or even ex military) weapons so easily in the states. I am glad it isnt like that here BUT, that doesnt mean I wouldnt jump at the opportunity to legally own any AK . |

ok, i just bought 3 boxes of 20 rounds for $18 so the 7.62 is cheap IMO. not going for an AR15 b/c small round with not much ass behind it, and the cheapest one around here is going for $800+. i've fired my friends mak90 and it was pretty dead one up to 100yards, but i know the sks is even better. and as for why, because i can. also, i want to get something before our next election.

yeah, i'm leaning towards the SKS with the Tapco T6 stock that replaces all of the furniture. it's lite weight and has a 6 pt. adjustable stock

meh, i know a friend who owns an AK (amongst a few other goodies) and he loves taking it out to the range. I haven't heard too much about the SKS, but from what i know it should also be a fun gun to just go have fun with. personally, i still prefer the good ol AR-15, easily customizable, comfortable, and very accurate

still, it's too expensive for a modified .22 round, it's an expensive gun to begin with, and the AK and SKS or as easily modified. plus, just to field strip the AR you need a special tool to take the reciever apart. i've been checking out videos on utube as far as cleaning, firing, bump firing, etc. i'm just not rich enough to go with an AR at the moment. not saying i won't end up with one before i'm done, just saying it won't be my first assualt rifle.
