The Happening

Anybody else seen it yet? There were some parts where i jumped out of my seat. Overall i think it was a good movie. And there was a second gen probe in the background of one of the shots too.

You liked it? I thought it was terrible. The trees? Really? And no explanation in the end ftl. I can't tell if it was supposed to be funny or not either. "It's plastic. I'm talking to a plastic plant. I'm still doing it." I laughed but seriously, wtf?

My overview of the movie:
A bunch of people committing suicide because of a toxin released by plants?. No explanation why the plants released said toxin. Basically I just left confused.

come one pat, at least say SPOILER before posting that. BUT i agree with you, i thought it was a ridiculous movie. Some people will say "it's an interesting way of making a good point", but [fizzle] those people in the nose. It was absolutely stupid. It needed more naked girls.

REVEALINGLY SEXY EDIT: SPOILER!!!

they did give an explanation, basically humans are killing plant life at an astonishing rate, and the plants were fighting back by releasing toxins into the air

The prospect of outsized profits leads people to exaggerate their own capabilities. In their minds. They pretend to themselves that they are in control of events where perhaps they are not. And it is always one's stance upon uncertain ground that invites the attention of one's enemies. or discourages it.

You're giving it too much credit. The explanation is that it was a completely freak act of nature that nobody will ever know the truth about, hence the scene in the classroom. The bad acting and pointless scenes could not have been a fluke, the movie's more of a joke than anything. I'm not a huge Mark Wahlberg fan, but I don't think he's TERRIBLE. You can't be that bad on purpose and be serious about it.

Look at the scenes with the two kids who get shot, or the nursery owner. Complete joke. It's like Lady In The Water and The Village. So rediculous it's entertaining.

Just went to see it today. Overall, I give it a 6 out of 10. Needed more elaboration for the trees and plants releasing the toxin, or they could have just left that out completely. Thats a pretty stupid excuse for what was going on. It almost seems as though it would have been better if they just left it a mystery as to why it was happening.

The ending was a little disappointing, but overall decent movie. I enjoyed it. My favorite part was with the video of the guy in the cage at the zoo who just let the lions bite his arms off. I thought that was crazy, and actually had an OMFG jaw dropped look on my face.

It really wasnt that bad. People judge movies too harshly. If youre looking for a deep meaningful movie with no flaws, grade A acting and something that will win awards, then no, I guess its not a good movie.

Its still an entertaining movie, and some parts will leave you shocked. The death scenes actually for once looked fairly realistic. Like in the beginning, when all the guys are jumping off the building, the 1st guy that jumps, you can actually see his legs are broken. I still cant get over the guy in the cage at the zoo. He just walks up to a lion and holds his arm out and lets the lion pounce on him. Then it cuts away, and the camera goes back up and you see his left arm is gone, and hes just walking towards another lion, calmly as can be, and lets the other lion grab onto his other arm. All I could think was "Ohhh.....[shizzle]! lol"

I have a few points to make and BTW I thought the movie was totally horrible.

1) They do explain why the trees caused this people to commit suicide.
The plants let out toxins as a defense when the feel there is a threat. Is this case they felt humans were a threat to earth thus releasing toxins to fend off the threat.
And why did it last only just over or under 24hrs.

2) The story was lost many times through out the movie. The explaination in the movie said that the toxins (not direct quote) "Disable the sensors in your brain that prevent you from doing harm to yourself". That was total okay with me but this is what kinda pisses me off about it and how the story gets lost.
A) Why does it cause the humans to become zombie like.
B) Why does everyone go on self killing sprees.

Neither would happen if all it does is make you not have that sense to not commit self pain. You would still have common sense and reason. You wouldn't turn into a walking zombie obsessed with suicide. You would still feel pain and wouldn't hurt yourself.

3) The movie had a weak ending and really didn't try to "save" the movie in anyway. Their could have been some sort of turn around for people to say Okay it all makes sense or something.

The movie had a good concept but was poorly put together. It would have made more sense if the toxins made people try to kill off eachother. The only logical ending would have been for everyone to die. That would have made sense.

I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. And once again I leave myself saying I'm never seeing one of his movies again!! I should have listened to myself after The Village!!!
