I might sell the six...

With the gas prices as ridiculous as they are paired with the road rage infusing traffic. I am leaning more and more to-wards a bike. Nothing fancy or super-fast as I am a novice. Therefore I have been thinking long and hard about selling the six.

She still looks good, paint is in good shape, the rest you can see in my sig. I will probably cry if someone else drives her away, but it seems to be the logical choice right now.

What do you guys think?

the bike is a good idea until it starts to snow. the 6 is not all that bad on gas, its just the prices.
i have the chance to go full time at work but teh commute is an extra 78 miles round trip. so i dont think it will be worth it. extra cash ill be making would go to gas. which i calculated at 360-400$ a month 5 days a week.
overall, you can get 26-30mpg on highway. depending on how you drive.

so i understand why you want to get rid of it but its not worth it. there are people in a worse situation than you. trucks, driving to the city and live in the burbs. heavy traffic. etc.

its the way of the world and how we live now and just have to pay for it thats all. id say keep it, unless you're in debt and need to pay off some stuff.

The six is not paying a loan, little insurance, good economy. And if your worried about crazy drivers, a bike is not necesarily the best option.

Solution: Give me your Speed3

Some very good points guys, except for me giving you my Speed3 Josh...

The thing is, I don't even drive the six right now. I haven't driven it for almost a year, just start ups to keep things flowing. It is now to the point where it will not pass emissions (VA is a bitch about this). I would be spending money on a few parts to get that taken care of, I would be spending money insuring it (not much but still), and then gas.

A bike can be had pretty cheap for a starter, insurance is also dirt cheap, gas mileage would be great and it would be something different I haven't done before.

Now I'm not hell bent on selling it, I don't need the little money I will get from selling it, but I don't want it to junk just sitting here. I just can't seem to find the time to work on it with a full time job and school. If I wait for school to be over I will be waiting another year.

Ok, lets see:

What would you do (mechanically, no show, only go) if you had a 2.0L Auto sitting at home collecting dust and rust? Steps? Parts?

Thanks for the help.

If its not thatbig of a deal for ya, then sell it/part it. You might not need the money, but it sure would help. If all else fails, at least you have a car to move around in case you want to work in the speed..

that you should give to me

naveen, just sell it, if you have the bike, you will have a ride as well, if you need to work on the speed3.

i agree with you, gas prices are out of control.

make sure you sell her to a kid that will take care of her.

I'd be nervous about driving a bike in traffic around here.

here's another element: my nephew turns 16 next year and will be a sophomore in HS. I think this would be great present for him, he will def have one of the cooler looking cars, with a little bit of work it could also be quick.

I will still be looking for a bike though. Suggestions are welcome for a starter bike.

Nah, just sell the six and use the money towards a bike. Giving the car to your nephew sounds nice and all but it isn't the best idea in the long run. He will proabably eff the car up and you will hold a grudge against him for it for the rest of your life. He will likely appreciate a car more if he has to pay for it out of his own pocket anyways.

Crap, how are you only getting 18 mpg? I was getting close to 30 out of my MX-6 before I put wider tires on it, got new struts, and lowered it. Now its down to about 24 because I drive much faster now. LOL
