Yeay or ney...broken's new toy?

So Ive been driving by it for the past 4 months or so, and the poor thing has been sitting there, under the harsh Florida sun and weather, for God knows how long.

So yesterday I decided to stop and check it out. First impression was WOW, this is mint. But as I looked more calmly, You could tell that the sitting outside the garage had taken a toll on him. Needs new tires (thread is OK, but the rubber is craked and stiff), the rubber spoiler needs a bit of TLC, and the body is good, but it has some hail/pidgeon poop damage. The interior looked ok through the window, sans the shifter boot, which looke dall odd.

So I called. Nice hispanic couple, told me that they bought the car new, they had it on their garage for the longest, only taking it out on the weekends 'round the neighborhood to keep the engine on check. They were saving it for their son, who is 17 now, but he rather have an auto car (at this moment I also came to realization that their son was, in fact, a queer basket). They couldnt store it any longer, so they put it out for sale, sadly. They are askign for $5k, but since its been sitting out for so long, they'll take any offers. $2k-$2.5k maybeh?

Anyhow, without further due, the potential new toy. Porshe 944 (anybody that knows the year gets Karmatized)

lol pretty schweet pic with my hatch on the back...

hail/pidgeon poop damage. Also, the frst indication of bubble rust. Nothing a bit of TLC, rust remover, and paint wont cure really.

more hail/pidgeon poop damage.

The people called me this morning again (8am wtf). They said that if I wanted to stop by and look at it and take a test drive it would be fine with them. Im thinking about it, but dunno if I can afford a 3rd (new) car again.

But here's the kicker: I mentioned to my g/f and she said that, if she could learn how to drive it, she woudl buy it. Which means I would have a Porshe to play around.

So yeay or ney?

non turbo, 1987.

they're decent cars.. nothing special. a 2g will pull and turn better.

if it were the turbo, its a different story. low 14's all day long, and near 1 lateral g, stock.

yeah I realized it was the non-turbo, which I guess atracted me a wee bit more. No turbo = less hassle, cheaper fixing, still a Porshe?

Besides, Im guessing parts are swapable between both the turbo and the N/A?

no karma for you though, you got enough . And you still havent answered my PM.

Any details on year, mileage...? It looks pretty good, and I am a fan of Porches'. The only thing is if I have a hatch which I am modding (seems like you have done a few mods to yours) I woudn't put money into this.

Unfortunately I will have to say Nay.

Good luck though.

Nope, no details on it so far. Maybe when I go see it again. As for the modding, yeah, thats another of my concerns. 2 cars already, both of them are money pits, only one job, plus school. I living the american dream

$5K, thats why it still has bird poop on it!

Leave it sit there. My cousin has a 944 and power wise, well, I think my wife's echo would give him a run!

Now, a 944 turbo, or a 928, yea sure why not.

the way I see it, a GOOD body job is gonna run you around $2500/3000.
Good tires, say $500 installed.
if its been sitting in the weeds for 6+ month's, who knows what kind of oil leeks might have occoured... (remember it is 20 years old too)
probably struts, bushings,???

and lets say you can get the car for $2500
what are you looking like 6-7K when all is said and done to have a good looking 944 again?

I wouldn't do it, but hey thats me!
I love the looks of the 944's don't get me wrong, but I think you'll get a better "feel" of it after the test drive.
I was far from impressed with my cousins!

Oh yea and for around the $7000 range, you could find a 911. sure, probably not a mint one, but still, a much better car than the 944.

Gettin blown by one 19yr old...NICE!! Gettin blown by two...PRICELESS!!

I love 944's, but SXE makes some good points. Make sure you know what you're getting into expensewise.

$3k no more.... I'd give it to a Porsche dealer to do a bumper to bumper inspection to see what it needs, and get estimates, as that is phenominal bargaining power right there, even if you plan on doing the repairs yourself. No way that car is worth that much though.

I figured it wouldnt be that much. I wasnt planning on offering more than $3k IF I decided to get it (or my g/f for that matter).

944's are good looking cars, but I wouldn't pay $5k for it. Maybe $2500. Porsche parts are also going to expensive. Save the cash and pass on it.
