Do the people who have joined this site in or before their early twenties, age in a more "fun" or "better" manner than people who have not had the privilege of being part of this community?
Take the example of sicksix. He joined when he was 24 and is now 32(soon to be 33 you old man)....guy's a nut! Definitely one of the funniest and coolest guys here.
I've obviously grown up since I became a member on here. I was 17 when I signed up and I'll be 25 this november. I wouldn't really say that mx6.com helped me to grow up though. I would say it helped me to stay young and continue to be socially stunted from the privacy of my own home instead of making an ass of myself in real life.
more than anything it helped keep me from falling into the media persuasion of what looks "fly." I figured out that there are many more ways to modify a car than just the stereotypical "Fast and the Furious" over the top tuner look. Gravitated to a more factory looking taste with flare add on's. My six started out with an invader front bumper. I thought that was the coolest bumper evar! Now im rollin on an OEM 6 front bumper. Got a JDM mazda 6 lip waiting in the wings to be put on
As far as growing up and having more fun doing it, ehh i dunno about all that. Place made me a web troll many times lol. You can't do anything too terribly dumb while on the computer all the time though. Probably prevented a few mishaps lol
It just seems to me that most of the members who have "grown up" from the site have a more interesting life than people i know who haven't.
For example. let's take sicksix again, for his birthday next month, he's going to climb a mountain, call me a suck up, but that's "living life to its fullest" to me.
Another example, Chefsp0t, I know it's more than likely completely unrelated, but he's a chef. That's pretty farking gnarly. Most guys I know personally at 24 are boring and spend their time and money drinking their asses off while still living at mom and dads mooching off them.
Hell, I'm 22 and I'm an example. As a teen I've always dreamed of owning either an RX-7 or a Supra. After spending much time here and basically learning all my car knowledge here, thus not spending money at a garage, I've been able to save up enough cash to go out and buy an RX-7 flat out cash. No loan, nothing. And I know how to work on almost all of it too because cars are generally all the same (leave aside the rotary engine).
It just seems to me as thought the members here have a "better" future for them ahead than the guys who have no ambition drinking in their parents basement.
hmm... i can kind of see where you come from with all this...
i too know my fair share of people who just sit around drinking, go to work, come home, drink some more, pass out, and do it all over again. as opposed to people who live out their ambitions and go hiking, racing, go to the beach, etc.
and i too feel that this place is chock full of ambitious proactive individuals.
Generally I find that people who spend alot of the time on internet forums are a bunch of [fizzle]ing idiots dragging their "internet persona's" into real life where it doesnt fit (and where you cant ignore it).
But I like mx6.com, ive been here since I was 15 and am now 21 .
I haven't lived with mommy and daddy since i was 17, and i consider my life to be fulfilling.
I'm still trying to decide if i like this place. There's cool people, and i've seen a bunch of morons, too. But i guess that's normal.
I spend more of my time on the Celica boards and Grassroots Motorsports, though.
“One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work.”
lol I'm still trying to decide if that was done on purpose or not.
To me mx6.com has just been a source of information for learning. the people are just a bonus.
it has taught me to think before i open my mouth (both in posting and in real life) not sure its made my life more 'fun or fulfilling' (that more of a spiritual thing to me) but I have learned quite a bit from people on this site.
As far as morons are concerned...its the internet, people just say stuff because there is no need to be polite or politically correct. I've found some personalities to be abrasive on here but its better than any other site I've been to.

Ah hem.......................Just because i keep losing jobs left an right doesn't mean i rule!
Although i think today i may have gotten a promising lead after months of bs. I would't say i've grown up on here much, after all i was the dude the posted a pic wearing my gf's dress [shizzle]faced. But i have learned a ton about things in general.
This def is one of the most laid back forums i have ever found. I don't really see a lot of flaming on here either. Some but not nearly the amount on forums that are determined to explain fully how you are wasting their time.

I've grown up in the car world, 75% of which I've learned here from the FAQ and random crap threads I've made over the few years I've been here.
The other 20% is just working on my own car AFTER I've read all the stuff from this site.
Last 5% is from watching scubasteve_07 tearing my engine out, asking AJ bunch of stupid questions, and other stuff :P
Oh yeah, and getting my first mx6 totalled also helped. If I ended up keeping that thing, I wouldn't have done 1/4 of the mods I've done to my car now. Stupid obdII crap
