Well, the balut was not the weirdest thing i ate. I was just mentioning it because i thought it would be weird to you guys. I really don't think anything you guys mentioned was weird. Food is a cultural thing and it's normal in that country or place to be eating that kind of stuff, but some things might be weird for other people.

very true, and I certainly do not disparage against others culture, it just doesnt mean I wish to experience in all aspects
balut is insane, but i love some other filipino food. kaldereta is my favorite, but i enjoy lumpia, pansit, sinigang and some other stuff my buddies wife would cook. i didnt care for the pig ankles cooked in blood though.
i used to eat that all the time. it's not that bad. there's the "penoy" which didnt have the chick yet, but the one with the chick was pretty nasty with the feathers all formed and stuff.
i grew up in a very multi-cultural city in the philippines and i ate stuff like "isaw" (chicken intestines), chicken feet, cheese flavored ice cream, ive had ant eggs, some egg rolls that they didnt mention what was in it, and century egg, "dinuguan" pork cooked in pig's blood, and lots of other things. balut was the least of my concerns.
i'm just waiting for someone to say dog or cat.
I have eaten dinuguan, isaw, and cheese flavored ice cream (actually not bad). Balut is consider a afrodisiac like clams here. I don't know still freaks me out lol. Dinuguan is good as well, but I must say after i found out what was in it i haven't touch it since hahah!!!
