Alright, weird thread i know.. I'm 27 years old and i can't have a good shave to save my life. And i can't shave everyday, i have to let it grow in a bit or i will just break out in razor burn.
What do you guys do if you get bad in grown hairs. Every time i shave lately, i get many in grown hairs on my kneck. My wife just a few minutes ago sat there and pulled about 15-20 in grown hairs. My skin is irritated, and its sore as hell.
Anyone else have this issue? I use Gillette Skin Sensitive shaving cream with a Mach 3.
I may not be perfect, but I'm Canadian and thats close enough!!!!!!!!
I WAS using a gillette fusion (5 blades) and honesty the trick is less is better.
The little blue 2 blade disposable with a white strip on top is THE BEST.
Seriously... best shave of my life... doesnt irritate AT ALL even when going over and over same spot for course hair. But 5 blades HURTS more than once same way.
Hope that helps dude... try the little blue ones for a few weeks man, its the best hands down
For the time being, participate in No-Shave November. Give your face a rest.
But seriously, I always let it grow out for three or four days or so, then cut it with a beard trimmer, then go at it with the razor. If gives the skin a few days to recouperate, and the beard trimmer gets the hair close enough to the skin to cut with a razor without rubbing your face raw like an electric shaver (they have never worked for me. Ever.) I grow hair pretty quick, so my jobs cut me some slack if I look a little shabby for a day or two. That, and I'm notorious for having a very large, bushy, unkempt beard, so they're willing to take what they can get.

I have always had the best luck with Bic Comfort 3 razors. I actually like that better than Mach 3's. I always shave in the shower and leave it for last so the hot water softens the hairs. Give the shaving cream a minute to work as well and also dont ever go directly against the grain. I at the most do 45 degrees against the grain and avoid ingrown hairs that way.

Agreed. I just switched from a quattro and I won't go back. These new razor blades are too damn expensive. It's like more than a tank of gas for razor blades which is unacceptable in my book.
I use the cheap shaving cream my dad has always used. Barbasol. It works great.
I shave against the grain every time I shave because I feel like I did a half assed job if I don't. The hair right under my chin never gets shaved off close enough if I don't shave both ways.
As far as ingrown hairs go I just use some tweezers and pull them out every morning.
I do get an irritated neck but using a face scrub before you shave and a good moisturizer after you shave really helps a lot. I am hoping that eventually my neck will get tougher and I won't have that problem anymore.

Straight edge razors are awesome. I want to get a shave from a barber so bad. One of the guys I used to work with used to get them and said they kick ass.

yeah. the barber i go to uses a straight blade to shave the back of your neck and trim your side burns. I asked him about a shave once, and he said its illegal now for barbers to do facial shaves. I bet there is still some out there though that do it.
I'm going to check out these throw away razors your talking about. I also have to shave in every direction to get a smooth shave.. with and against the grain

Don't shave. Just buy a clipper and keep it nice and short with the lowest setting. That's what I use because I can't stand having in grown hairs. I used to have the same issue as you Brian, I've been using a clipper now for over a year and I don't think I'll go back.

Your heart beats, mine rotates!
You're getting ingrown hairs because you are shaving too close for your type of hair. You might be better off with a Norelco or Remington electric shaver as it doesn't shave as close as a blade. I can shave my face with a blade and won't have any issues but I can only use an electric shaver on my neck.
I just recently switched from that 5 blade fusion thingy to the cheap disposable ones. Way better. I feel for you, I dont get razor burn but I do cut my face really easy. Less of a bloody mess now with the disposables.

It`s been said before, but the trick is less blades and shaving in the same direction the hair is growing. Also try warming your skin with a hot wet cloth for a few minutes before you get started. Submersing your can of shaving cream/gel in warm water to bring the temperature up a bit helps too.
It's like painting a car, the prep is just as important as the paint.
Personally, I just do the scruff look and trim with clippers.
