Anyone heard of it? Well I have it. Just your typical fake anti-virus scanner that steals idiots money.
If I could restart in safe mode I could do system restore and id be good to go, but it wont let me restart in safe mode because of the virus. Wont really let me do anything until I buy it. I cant even get to my desktop. I was lucky enough to get on the internet to type this.
Ive tried the removal tools that come up when I google how to remove it, one was Spydoctor or whatever, but that wont work, because it looks like I gotta buy it. Thats probably just another fake program too that just [fizzle]ed my hard drive even more.
How can I get rid of this thing? Dont tell me to reformat. Im not looking to lose all my information and music and such, and no I dont have a way to back it up right now
i cant remember for sure if that program does it, but it may not let malwarebytes run the install, just rename the file something else, like tacos or ducks(really doesnt matter). If that doesnt work, rename the actual .exe installer file and change the target in the shortcut to match.
if you can get into task manager at some point, click on processes and click on CPU to organize them by CPU usage. on your system tray(by clock) click on the fake AV program and see which program moves up in CPU usage and then end that one. That should get you into most of your computer.
after wards, make sure to go into msconfig through your run command and take it off of startup, and delete the folder Prefetch in your C:\Windows directory.
I've been using SuperAntiSpyware for the majority of the year. The subscription was $15 for the whole year. It's kept my computer clean for a while now.
My dads computer was having tons of these fake AntiSpywares. Many times the main suggestion is to end the process after ctrl+alt+del. Then run any antispywares you have.
But, when I installed SuperantiSpyware on my dads computer the fakes stopped.
Sorry Yaba didn't read all of your response to the original poster's question.
I dont know why anyone would use anything besides Malwarebytes. Its free, and other BIG NAME antivirus' software developers use it to test their own software.
thing i would do is find another computer, hook the hard drive in your computer up to an external usb case, hook it up to the other computer and scan it from there with malwarebytes and virus scan(s)

I wouldn't do this...if it is a REAL virus and not just spyware, it would wreak havoc on the host machine.
why would it? it's not active in the host system as long as it's not in the autorun. plus if the antivirus on the host machine is up to date, it should catch it. but from what it sounds like, the best option would be to get all of his data off and start from scratch
