So I decided its time to part with my 6. I bought an 09 Legacy in December. I had a thread on here a while back, idk if its still around...anyways how have you guys had luck selling your cars?
Ive been on craigslist, and that has proven to be a scam riddled disaster. Nearly every response I have received has been a scam. I even had someone tell me they were going to send me a check and have their "agent" come and pick up the car.
Im not asking a lot for it, ($2500 for a 97 LS that has an engine knock...probably the timing belt tensioner).
I was thinking putting it on Ebay with a reserve, but thats taking a gamble too. Any ideas?

if you use ebay don't set a reserve on a vehicle going for 2500. Just have a very descriptive listing with lots of pics and you'll do fine. Try facebook, thats how i sold my six. Your right, craigslist sucks. I won't ever use it to sell a vehicle again.
i would have throught there would be something like carsales.com.au (but for the US) to help you sell cars. We have ebay and gumtree (like craigslist) as well to sell cars/other stuff/services on, but i prefer carsales.

I doubt you would get any serious offers near 2500 on a car with an engine knock.
Whats a reasonable asking price for the car? It runs perfectly fine...comes with an aftermarket stereo (speakers, receiver, amp and sub). And a new exhaust system from the cat back, including muffler (new meaning last october) and 4 new tires with less than 3k on them.
I loved the car, had it for 6 years, i just no longer have a use for it. I just haven't had any luck selling it.

an engine knock can be numerous things, some of them meaning a full rebuild, so think of it in those terms, even if it runs perfectly fine, it actualy "isnt" running perfectly fine due to the knock
here is what you do for CL to weed out the scams.
post your phone number, but instead of the prefix in numbers, spell each out.
Ive used this method for several things Ive sold on CL and it works fine, the downside is you wont get anywhere near as many responses, but the ones you do get will be legit.

Its worth whatever someone is willing to pay for a car with a knocking engine and an unknown cause. Many times a knocking engine is junk and no one with a brain would spend 2500 on a car that might need 1500 in engine work. If it is an easy fix, fix it yourself and sell it for a fair price.
BTW, most project cars I've bought that had issues I usually bought for 500.
