Cheap way to get the paint/body work...

Well, if you've seen my car, you'd know it needs a bit of work on the exterior. A dent in each front quarter pannel, and a small dent from a truck backing into the hood, and causing a small rust spot. The clear coat has worn off, and it pretty much needs to be stripped down to bare metal and repainted.

And well, I want it painted black instead of the hunter green it is stock. Maaco is quoting it all at around $2,600, if they do the body work and all. $2,250 if I put new quarter pannels and a hood on myself. I can't remember what it'd save to get it stripped and primed elsewhere, but not too much. And it'd still ost $600 for them to repaint the engine bay, door sills, and in the trunk that would need to be painted to match, since they're currently green.

And well, coming up with $2,600 isn't the easiest thing to do at my current job, and heck, anywhere really would still have a dent in your wallet for that price.

Soo...

Does anyone know anywhere I could get it all done for less?
(Bruces for example, to keep it the same color, quoted me at $4k. Not happening.)

Shops are nice, but anyone who could do good work on a car for a cheaper price would be pretty helpful. I had found a guy who'd do it a lot cheaper, but he ended up moving as of recently. Go figure, ne?

Sorry for the long post though, just figured a bit of detail would be nice.

Just remember you get what you pay for.

I thought the exact same thing you did - and hooked up with a member on here about six hours from my house to get it done. Not only did it take forever and was a royal pain on me, it ended up being a complete piece of crap.

Needless to say, before I'm really 'satisfied', it will have to be redone. If you have any real care about your '6, save up the money and get it done right the first time.

The only thing I can say is that if you know of a shop that does good work, try talking to the paint guy there and see if he might be willing to do it on the side.
