I used to love the sound the Panoz Esperante LMP car used to make. It was the most odd sounding V8 there was. Something about the firing order or the headers that made it sound like 2 banks of 4-cylinders. A very off cadence "Ducatti" sort of noise. No mistaking the sound of "Le Batmobile".
Good catch, I missed that. I should have been more specific...American V8s (Although with straight(?) or no crossover pipes that Nissan does have a very throaty rumble)
i don't like the sound of nissan's newer engines at all.. its all drone... its a sound created by excessive use of resonator fins, and expansion chambers. its as annoying, and simultaneously as pervasive as the old "five-oh" sound on the rustangs.
the actual engines (listen to one with headers and open exhaust) are pretty rough sounding.
Its hard to get a favorite"engine" sound on a street car, because things like exhaust are so variable.
With that said, here are a few of my favorites... some with tuned exhaust, some without.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 with aerochamber exhaust, - Video
very close setup to mine - same 3" aerochamber muffler... except i'm running a side exit, and thorley headers (slightly more aggressive long tubes) but still have teh cat. just a classic muscle sounding jeep :P
F1 Engine Song - Video
This is always a good one.. the singing renault. (precise throttling controlled by a computer, to play a tune) There was also a video of a 3 or 4 rotor rotary doing something like this.. does anyone have a link to that? I can't find it. song starts at 19 seconds
YouTube - Mondello Lap 1 270107 MX-6
of course we have to give some KL love.. actually among the better sounding engines out there. I've used one of Piers' videos to illustrate
94 mx6 - you name it - I did it, came up with it, tried it and rejected it or just plain still have it. 93 mx3 - klze, i/h/e, rims and paint.. daily driver. 98 jeep GC - 5.9L with bolt ons, lifted, locked. 32x10.5 Goodyear MTR winter/ 30x9.5 bfg ta/ko summer
