HOW TO: Host and Post Pics

Since image linking is no longer allowed in the main Gallery, here is a simple How To on posting and hosting pics.

You have three options for posting pics on MX6.com:
1) Use the IMG tag to display an image that is hosted on another website.
-OR-
2) Get a Hosting Subscription and upload images from your computer straight to the site.

3) Use the imageshack option on the post reply page.

I will go over how to do all three.

1) Using the IMG tag.

To use the IMG tag the image file must already be visible on another website. ALSO, that website must ALLOW HOTLINKING.
Hotlinking is the ability to link directly to an image file from another website. Many sites restrict it, but some common sites that allow it include ImageShack, UploadIt, PlanetSideImages, PhotoBucket, PixFiles, PicGoo, Pix8, 35mb.
Host that DO NOT allow holtinking include Angelfire, Geocities, Yahoo, and MSN.
Typically it is quite easy to get an account and upload your pics to it. Each host site is different so I can not include imstructions on using them.

Once your images are uploaded, follow these steps to display them in your Gallery thread.
1) Browse to the full-size image in your Web Browser.
2) Right-click on the image and select Properties from the popup menu.
3) With your mouse, highlight the Address(URL) to the image file.
4) While the address is highlightes, press Ctrl + C to copy it.
5) Create a new post in the MX6.com Gallery. While you are editing the post insert the image using either method:
a) Click the Image toolbar button on the message editor.
A small window will popup, paste the address into the windows by pressing Ctrl + V. Then click OK. Your image will appear in the message.
-OR-
b) Manually type the IMG tag into your message.
Type [IMG] then paste your address (press Ctrl + V) then [/IMG].
The result will look like this:
[IMG]http://www.website.com/pics/mypic.jpg[/IMG]

That's it. When you post, your image will appear in the message.
If you try this with a host that does not allow hotlinking you will either get a Red X or another image will appear stating that hotlinking is not allowed.

2) Hosting Subscription (attaching images)

If you want to be able to load images directly to the MX6.com server, you will need a Hosting Subscription.
Once you have that you will be able to Attach Files to your posts.
When you post a message you will see a Manage Attachments button below. Click this button and another window will appear that allows you to upload up to 5 images from your computer.
The images must be 640x480 or smaller.
Browse to select the file, then click the Upload button to load it to the server. Close the window once you are done then Submit your message. The images will appear as thumbnails.

If you want to display the full-size version of one of your attached images (you can do this anywhere on the site). Follow these steps:
1) Right-click on the thumbnail you want to display and select Properties from the popup menu.
2) Make note of the attachment ID number at the end of the address.
3) Post a message and insert the ATT tag with the attachment ID in the middle. Like this:
[ATT]1710[/ATT]

3) Using Imageshack.

There is a new option to use Imageshack to upload pictures to, with a direct link from the post reply page.

1) Scroll down until you see "Upload your images to Imageshack" on the post reply page. (It's underneath the reply area, in the options)

2) Click browse, and locate where the file is stored on your computer.

3) Select the file, and click "Open".

4) Click "Host it", which is next to the text box with the address of your picture.

5) Copy the text from "Thumbnail for forums (1)", and paste it to the thread you are creating/replying to.

6) If you have more than one photo to share, repeat these steps.

That's it.

If you have any questions, please post them in the Site Questions and Comments forum.
