Well, postwhores beware! hehe..
We just installed a rating system called Karma. It is a scoring system based on a number of things (posting does not add Karma)
Im not going to tell everything that can add Karma, but I will tell you that Admins can take it away, Mods can remove a small bit of Karma and fellow members can agree or disagree with your posts to affect your Karma..
I hope this system becomes one in which we can more easily distinguish between postwhores and helpful members..
If anyone experiences a bug or error, please PM me about it.
Enjoy..
Oh and BTW we are all starting with 0 Karma so now is the time to leave your evil ways you postwhoring sinners... Im kidding there is actually no penalty for post whoring, but you dont gain any Karma for it either..

The basis of this system working is that people take the time to actually give or take karma from others. My feeling on this is that not enough people will take the time to give posts a + or - karma rating, especially those people with dial up modems. ( I know that sounds funny, but it takes a great deal of time to go to new posts and go between pages on a dial up modem. ) It wont really affect anyone though because all of us who have been here for a long while know who the knowledgable, reliable ones are, and who the quip/post for a laugh people are.
I like this idea. I think it will be a good way to help people know who the ones are on this board that really deserve to be respected. You dont have to know everything, just do you rbest and put your 2 cents in. Good work Admins. Karma points for you, hehe
I am up for giving anything a try but i have 2 concerns:
1) What if someone hates you? Couldn't they sabbatoge your 'Karma'? (Better watch out rabbit!)
2) What about people who help others understand the rules? In the past 5 min i saw 3 posts in the wrong forums and 4 signatures that were longer then 5 lines - if one were to say something and they took it the wrong way could they not hurt your 'Karma'?
Just curious - personally i don't really care all that much. I liked it best when the count was only kept in the profile and not in each post but change is good...
Claeren.
PS - I am checking this right now, but are our post counts still being kept somewhere?
ok, if this just started today, then how does scooby already have 152 point? I know you do a lot for the sight, but you don't post THAT much!? I'm not pissy or anything, just a little curious. Oh and I haven't tried it yet, nor will I, but what if you try and vote for yourself?

I have 152 points just to test the karma system..im resetting it o 0 today..
Other people cannot affect your karma very much at all..each time someone agrees or disagrees with you it only affects your karma a small bit... Mods and Admins can affect it to a much larger degree but still not that much..
And we do not have the ability to just add a ton of karma, even to myself... I had to reward karma to myself about 50 times to get it as high as it is, so this is not a system that will be easy to abuse..
Also a person can only agree/disagree with one of posts once and it lists the members name who agreed/disagreed so you know who it was..
There are reoutines that make sure a specific person cannot affect the karma of another person too much. Liek in the instance of diagreeing with every post a person has made..the system monitors that kind of activity. If I went through the board and started disagreeing with a specific person's posts, then it would decrease thier karma for a while, but then it would start decreasing MY karma.. Excessive use of the karma system decreases your karma, but dont worry about that..the only way youll get into that situation is if you only agree a ton or diagree a ton..
People who violate the rules of the board will receive a penalty to thier karma that is greater than the penaly for a disagreement but still not too much, and there is a limit on how much karma you can lose in a day..
If your karma gets too low, we can do a number of things..the system allows us to ban a member with low karma from certain forums or from the site altogether, we can implement a temporary ban or remove posting priviledges for a while. None of these automatic systems are turned on right now. I prefer to handle that on a case-by-case basis..

This idea is amazing. It adds a lil spice to the board, not that we dont have enough already. But its really cool to see who turns green and who turns red. With all my organzing of meets in toronto,I hope my fellow members feel I deserve some tasty karma. Otherwise, it was very cool tocome on here and find the chat option (very nice, good attention to detail). Besides I am an mx6.com lord so i am happy with my status. Can we have the post count back again, if thats okay with you scooby and optima. See you at the meet!
Yes! Very intellingent way to monitor who is hot and who is not. I like it. I have a question though: For example if I do have karma points, can I monitor who has given me that and what is the comment or how does that work? I tried to find out but didn't find out anything much...
