Having owned both a 1g GT and a 2nd Gen LS, I have to say I like the LS a lot better. The turbo was no faster in stock form and the LS had a LOT more balls in the low end, where you end up driving most of the time! Plus everyone commented how the 2nd gen was such a nice car, and not a lot of people had ANY idea what company made it, and were surprised when I said it was a Mazda and how old it was. The only comments about my 1g I got was how good shape it was in for it's age, people knew it was just another Japanese car from the 80s, although Ginette was and will always be beautiful to me

I agree the LS I had had alot of balls even though it had the AT in it. Its hard to find a mx6 in the area I live in much less a 5 speed. The next one I get will be the car that sits in the yard and gets babied.

The LS had alot more balls in the lower end? Are you sure you? As i recall the 1st gen stock makes way more torque and is a lower revving engine. It makes all of its power down low. Maybe the 1st gen you had didnt have a turbo?
plus i can make a 1st gen faster than a 2ng gen for like 15 bucks. Obviously if you turbo a 2nd gen it would run laps on a 1st gen but thats not the point. 1st gen had the stock turbo and to me turbos are more fun to play with.
p.s. im not trying to bash a 2nd gen because i do love all mazdas. Im just trying to state why i like the first gen better. Thats all.
I've owned two 2G LS's, one RS, and currently a 1G GT. With that I am more fond with my GT since I have done much more than I had a chance to with the other mx6's. I do have to say that I have my pro's and con's about each generation. But to compare my 1G in its current state now to a 2G would not be fair since it eliminates alot of the cons on its side. But, stock for stock, I love the way both drive, but prefer the lunge of boost over smooth v6 power.

Yeah compnuts, just because they aren't built for boost doesn't mean they aren't kick ass engines. A K series engine was in Ward's top ten engines of year 199x IIRC. 4 Camshafts and VRIS are a few points in my mind that make it an engine that was ahead of it's time. For 1993, 200 HP out of 2.5L N/A was pretty kick ass.
The KL is why I bought the 2G. Haha, didn't just wanna be another 4-cyl!

I love boost, and a first gen gt is perfect for that! But.... To me, the kl just seems soooo much smoother! I guess i'm not one for getting up and gooooing fast...
I can tell a huge difference in my 94 LS compared to my Spec-V Sentra! I Honestly like the The Mazda More! It's 15 years old, 169k miles, original clutch, and nowhere near the get up and go as my nissan!!!(which is nice, but not my cup of tea i guess now that I have a kid!) I still love the smoooooothness of the mazda though! It might be the fact i've owned the car 5 years now, but still, it seems more decent to me!
But, everyonce in awhile, I do wish I had a 1st gen GT!!!!!
94 mx6 ls... parked... still
03/05 Spec-V sentra. 03 body, 05 motor. Runs [fizzle]ing great! Just doesn't drive... <-- Car from hell!
It may have been just the condition of my 1st gen it didnt have a turbo and had a billion miles on it but I replaced most of the worn parts and put some after market parts in it and didnt help it much. prolly the dieing tranny
maffatato, yup, I'm PRETTY sure my 1g GT had a turbo...either that or someone installed a hair dryer into the manifold, hehe.. I definetely had a first gen non-turbo as well so I could see the difference! But yeah, I didn't find the turbo 'came alive' till 3000rpm, that's when it started to pull, until that point it wasn't much quicker than my NA 1g.
The 2gs on the other hand I find pull hard right from the getgo, with a nice power bonus at 4000 but they definetely took off faster...please note all readings are coming from the factory dyno in the back of my pants and otherwise I have no proof of these impressions.

they say the hair dryer mod comes alive around 3000 rpm too so you never know haha
I wonder what would happen if I had put a gas powered leaf blower on my 1st gen...kinda suck pullin up to the like and havin to get out pop the hood to pull crank the turbo or would that make it a supercharger.?.? that would be getto
This is the exact reason why I love my car so much. Now, although it's nothing in comparison to an R32 GT-R power wise...looks wise: it's above and beyond and around where I live, the GT-R is almost as common as civics...that's why I love the 6...Barely seen on the road and I get asked what it is all the time. It feels great to own something others either envy or hate and are not just indifferant about.
