i have removed tons of wheel locks having worked for discount tire. first get a used expendable socket that feels like fits on it really thight usually u have to beat the shizzle out of it with i bfh (big fizzle hammer) to get it to on as much as u can. hope fully u have a good 3/4 drive impact or access to one. dont hammer on the impact right away work your way up to full power. you might have to do it a couple times. it might sound hillbilly but it works. hope this helps

Good for your gf that she still goes out there even though she comes in last. Last season I finished 2nd in the Ladies Division (out of about 7 regular lady members), and finished 1st in my class (out of 3 regular drivers). This upcoming season will be my 3rd year. I think part of it, atleast for women, is that alot of ladies tend to be afraid of what a car is capable and not willing to test the limits of a car for fear of "hurting" the car or finding themselves in a position they cannot control or get themselves out of. I've had my car since I was 16 and it has not done anything that I haven't already experienced, and I always feel like I can predict what its going to do in most situations; to be comftorable with one's car, as I'm sure most will agree, is priceless! I would, however, really like to get into drifting or atleast learn so that I can really test the limits of my car and see how far I can go in a controled slide. Here's a link to the SBR Ladies Division results: SBR Solo Ladies Index I also finished 43rd out of 220 drivers on the "PAX": SBR Solo The Tire Rack Index |

Naw the lug is just a chrome steel slug with an irregular pattern on the face.

I was told to use a lower quality 12 point socket slightly to small and to do what you said. BTW I tried the drill today and got about 1/16 of an inch deep on one lock before the bit dulled. Thanks for the help. |

Another thing to do, is go to all the local auto parts stores, and look down the ricer aisle. Usually they will have a set of locking lugs that have a key with them that will match what you have. It might cost you a few dollars, but at least you'll have a new key, and an extra set of lugs just in case *shrug*
We just did this for a friend, who lost his key. Cost $19.99 -meaty |

ok I thought so, yeah those shouldn't be that difficult what kind of a key did it use a star wrench? try to find one in a hardware store, if they dont than well just go with the extra lug idea anyway you're gonna need a new lug since you drilled one of them already. which hmm now thats gonna suck.. btw look for stainless steel bits, or learn to sharpen your current bit , if you have a grinder its not difficult at all. |

So cool that you worked at discount, I bet you and my husband know some of the same people. We'll have to chat at the Ft. Wayne meet.

I borrowed a set of those from the fleet mechanic at work and they didnt work for me. I did ask around and the tire places want $20 a wheel! And thats on top of $500+ in new tires. I'll try a 12 point lower grade socket and see how that works. I appriciate the help but I dont want to pollute this thread with any more stupid maintinance issues. |

Go to a junk yard and just take the key to a 6 from there. Should work, I just recommend using it and taking the locks off of the wheels at the 6 at the junk yard, so someone needing to take the wheels off doesn't get screwed over.
Or always check eBay for it? Since it's probably the original one, you could possibly find it online, or at a Mazda Dealership... But I'd check the junkyard first. |
