5.0 Mustang VS KLZE'd MX6

So I have a Eunos KLZE with 65mm bored throttle body, headers, cai, hi-flow cat, 2.5" Magnaflow catback & afpr. Lowered too, but that shouldn't matter much.

This middle-aged guy in a 5.0L Foxbody Mustang pulled up in the merging lane next to me, I figured, what the hell, if he's gonna give it a go, I'll give him a run.

Oh, and it was a 3 lane open road this morning and I made sure it was clear, so calm ur 'no street racing' comments.

Off the line, didn't mash it all the way, b/c wasn't sure if he wanted to race, but when I noticed he was line to line with me, pushed it quickly to 6800rpm. Shifted to second, ran it all the way to 6800rpm, he's still dead even with me.

As soon as I shifted to third, it was like all the torque in his car just suddenly decide to break loose just at that moment and he just zoomed right past me like nothing.

No idea if he had mods, but his license plate was 2RDLINE.

Even if he was stock, I just looked up the specs, and I don't think I did too bad considering the numbers:

1) ohv V8 5.0: 205-225 HP 275-300 lb/ft

OR

2) ohv V8 5.0 245 HP 320 lb/ft

Could you hear his car at all? If it was a 5 Speed 5.0/5.0 HO they can be quick when driven right, and can make power easier than a KLZE. Mustang Turbo SVO`s are fast too and can also make power easily.

I like hearing about races you gotta make sum vids next time.

yah he must have had mods because they are a somewhat heavier car, all fox body FI 5.0L stangs were 225 hp stock, I used to be into fox bodies til I realized that EVERYONE seems to have one lol anyways if driven right I would say they should be fairly even if he was stock but he must have had some mods, my buddy has a 89 5.0 with aftermarket intake, cams, exhaust fully built block with forged internals and higher compression pistons and its ported and polished that thing is MEAN when its in neutral and you rev it up it will bury the tach and keep reving higher and sounds amazing too!

no longer an mx6 owner...

No, I've never taken my car to the strip. If that's ^ true, I'm not surprised that he beat me the way he did.

What typically are the times on bolt-on KLZE? Low 14s?

Only the HO's were 225. Other FI 5.0's were as low as 190. And the cobra made more than 225 but i dont remember how much just now.

Thats not entirely fair. The 5 oh's are a different type of motor entirely Like the KL compared to a honda it's not designed for peak out put but for a broad power band. A mid ninties Civis Si makes about the same CHP from a 1.6L as the KL's 2.5 and can run with a stock MX-6 but not many people would trade our torque for the Hondas HP per liter selling point. And several bone stoce pre FI 302's will destroy most modern sport compacts.

at TMP in cayuga ive seen a v6 probe run high 15's and a KLZE mx6 run low 15's . neither could break a 14.

That's sad. Was it an auto, stock ZE or both? I have a ZE with mods and have run even with a stock Lightning which is a 13.6-13.9 truck.
