so i got a 1993 mx6 L4 and i wanna beef it up a bit. i wanna get it to at least 225-250 horses. its all bone stock and the only things i kno i wanna do to it performance wise is a cold air intake and a power programmer. i was thinking about upgrading the dual overhead cams but i HATE messing with the timing belt. i already got a new exhaust on it. so could anybody give me some ideas and possibly links to the parts. thanks
e bay or make your own on the cai , as far as a power programmer for the I4 ive not heard of or seen it but i could be wrong. are you wanting that much hp without turbo or supercharger? i have no clue how to do that.cam wise on the 2 gen I4 Ive not heard of anything there either but id like to if there is a feasible upgrade.
what is the L4...and i would go with headers i did a full exhaust and got more power that way... i don't know anything about how to program anything on this car would love to learn how tho...
The JDM engine version of the V6(The KL-ZE, versus our KL-DE here in America) even, makes 200hp, at the flywheel. You're wanting to make more power than the V6 with the I4, you're gonna have to go forced induction. And Nitrous gets to be more expensive in the end, the more you use it.
Honestly? If you're asking that question.. No offense, but you're gonna need to do your research.
The simplest way, is to start with an LS platform though. A ZE with bolt ons and megasquirt would yield what you ask for, at the wheels. Heck, even the KL-DE would need heavy modding to get there, with it's 164 at the crank.
Way too many links to give you, to be honest. Hit that search button up some, grab some snacks, some drinks, and go to town for a good bit.

well the whole L4 thing was an accident . i meant I4 i dont want to do nitrous and im kinda hesitant on a turbo. i would love to have one but i didnt really want to put one in but i guess that would be the easiest way. i dont wanna spend too much id just like to get a small one ya know nothing huge maybe about 10 psi anybody got any links to one?
Im going to a klze swap but its going to be a 4 cyl i dont want all to much power just something nice to get around and still be good on gas... right now i have the I4 and i put a header and full RS exhaust.. 2 1/4 inch pipe nothing crazy but it works.. in tell i do the swap
The fsze swap has been attempted many times, but I don't know if anyone ever got it running right. I think they have trouble sourcing the harness or ecu.
Seriously, Junk the I4 & grab a V6, then swap the KLZE, do the intake, exhaust will be way cheaper than what you are planning to do............(I believe the car wil be more reliable this way)
In Los Angeles, I can get a junk V6 around $500 depends on condition easy. The ZE engine is around $800 with $600 labor, ECU, exhaust, header, intake will cost you around $1500.........
But then, most people will start thinking other platform when they realize they need a budget about $3000, such as 300ZX or Integra or .......................civic....
That is just my 2 cents.

actually at my local junk yard they got a mx6 with the 2.5 in it and said i could have it for about 300. its a upick n pull place hence it being so cheap. and i can do all that myself i have several friends that have replaced their stock engines that know what they r doing. the only problem with that is i dont kno why the car is in the junk yard because the body is in great condition. im guessing it would have to be the engine so im a bit hesitant on that.
